Regular Season Week 14
Week 13
was another weird and strange weekend. Teams that nobody expected to win
actually won and teams that were expected to win lost. I mean, no one thought
the Cowboys would beat the Saints, the Cardinals would beat the Packers, the
Bucs would beat the Panthers, or the Giants would beat the Bears. But it all
happened on week 13. I also can’t believe the Giants won. I of course lost in
fantasy, it’s kind of my thing this year. I’m 5-8 on the season, only one game
better than the Giants, only because the Giants got a bye week from all of
their beatings. This is the first year that I haven’t made it to the fantasy
football playoffs. Insert angry face here. I went 10-6 in my picks, and
would have done much better if the before mentioned teams had different, more
likely outcomes. Now don’t get me wrong, I am elated that the Giants won, but
would you have picked them to beat the 8-3 Bears?
The end
of the regular season is near. Some head coaches have already lost their jobs,
including Mike McCarthy, former head coach of the Packers. I guess when you
lose to a 2-9 team it doesn’t look too good for you. Anyway…
Let’s
recap week thirteen.
Saints
@ Cowboys 10-13
I still
can’t believe that the Saints lost this game. They did not look like the Saints
for sure. It was almost as if the two teams switched jerseys. New Orleans never
really got anything started and the Cowboys did a really good job of shutting
down their running game. The outcome was shocking to say the least.
Ravens
@ Falcons 26-16
It’s
hard to think with the way they have been playing this year, that just a couple
years ago the Falcons were going to the Super Bowl. They have one of the best
receivers in the league, in Julio Jones, and still can’t get anything going.
The Ravens defense continues to make Ray Lewis proud and a little giddy each
week on Inside the NFL, so that’s fun. It’s a good thing that the Ravens
offense isn’t as good as their defense otherwise they would be pretty hard to
beat.
Broncos
@ Bengals 24-10
The
Broncos have now won three in a row. Phillip Lindsay, rookie running back, ran
all over the Bengals defense putting up over 150 yards and two touchdowns. It’s
pretty safe to say that the Bengals will not be making the postseason this
year.
Rams @
Lions 30-16
The
Rams clinched the NFC West title with this win over the Lions. Todd Gurley was
his normal self, scoring two touchdowns and over 130 yards rushing. The Lions
at least showed up to the game, a little bit.
Cardinals
@ Packers 20-17
I’m
really surprised that the Cardinals won this game. I don’t think anyone picked
the Packers to lose. Not only did they lose the game, they also lost their head
coach, Mike McCarthy, who was fired shortly after the game.
Bills @
Dolphins 17-21
I
didn’t think that the Bills would win this game but it’s kind of funny to think
that if they didn’t have some costly penalties they just might have. The big
penalty was on Jordan Phillips for taunting his former team, which set up a
touchdown that pretty much sealed the win for Miami.
Bears @
Giants 27-30 OT
Our
good friends, one being a huge Bears fan, invited us over to watch the game. I
of course had zero expectations of a win, let alone a close game. I thought it
was going to be a blowout win for the Bears. I did suit up though, Giants
earrings, football socks, Barkley jersey and even NY Giants underwear. I had
all my good luck charms on. The day started off very shockingly with a pick six
from Linebacker, Alec Ogletree, on the second play of the game. Ogletree had
another interception later in the game. The Giants had already out performed in
my opinion, but it didn’t stop there. The Giants and Bears went back and forth
through the rain and the mud, battling till the end of overtime. OBJ had two
touchdowns, one passing and one receiving, and Saquan practiced his hurdling
skills to setup a score late in the game. It was a great game, an intense game,
and at times a really ugly game. On the Bears side of the ball the greatest
play was when nose tackle, Akiem Hicks plowed through the Giants D line on
fourth down on the one yard line to score a touchdown Refrigerator Perry style.
Overtime was excruciating. Rosas was clutch all game and made all attempted
field goals, which ultimately gave us the win. The Bears fumbled the ball 3 different
times on their final drive and when their quarterback went deep on fourth down
and had his pass knocked down by Jackrabbit Jenkins I leapt out of my chair and
started screaming. My friend’s upstairs neighbor texted her to make sure no one
was getting murdered… It was a good game. GMEN!!!!
Panthers
@ Buccaneers 17-24
The
Panthers did not bounce back after their loss last week and have only buried
themselves deeper losing to division rivals with a mediocre record. I mean the
Bucs are so bad this year the owner was giving away tickets for free just to
get people into the stands. I guess it worked.
Colts @
Jaguars 0-6
The
Jags shut out the Colts but the Colts defense still put up ridiculous points in
my fantasy league. You guessed it, my opponent started the Colts defense. Smh.
Browns
@ Texans 13-29
The
Texans have now won nine in a row! The defense intercepted Baker Mayfield 3
times, one of which was a pick 6. As a Giants fan, I’m happy to say that we
beat the Texans this year… just saying.
Jets @
Titans 22-26
I took
a poll before this game to see which defense I should start. The Titans won the
poll so I started them. They actually did better than the Seahawks, which was
the defense I was going to go with. The score didn’t start out favoring the
Titans defense as the Jets had 10 points on the board within the first 5
minutes of the game. I thought I had made a huge mistake. But things got better
and I actually didn’t finish with negative numbers with my defense this week
and they did better than the Seahawks.
Chiefs
@ Raiders 40-33
It’s
safe to say that both the Chiefs and Raiders defense was pretty much non
existent. I think the Raiders scored more points this game than they have all
season. Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes to join Peyton Manning and
Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to reach the 40 touchdown mark through
twelve games. Mahomes is crazy good.
Vikings
@ Patriots 10-24
This
was Bill Belichick’s 250th win with the Patriots. The Patriots simply out
played the Vikings. I had the Pats defense on my bench and started Cousins.
Maybe I should have reversed it.
49ers @
Seahawks 16-43
Yikes.
This was the game I was expecting the Giants to have. Not a good day for the
49ers. Fun fact, Russell Wilson threw 3 first-half touchdowns on just four
completions. Russell had a really good day, as well as the rest of the
Seahawks.
Chargers
@ Steelers 33-30
This
game was GREAT to watch! Especially the part at the end when the Steelers lost.
It only took the Chargers kicker three attempts in the final seconds to win the
game. The Steelers defense jumped offsides THREE times during the field goal
attempt. Michael Badgley missed the first two attempts but because of the
offsides calls he got to try again, and everyone knows the third time’s the
charm. Even though the Steelers were offsides the third time the penalty was
waived, the kick was good, and the game was over!
Redskins
@ Eagles 13-28
This
game was ugly, but at the same time it gives some hope for the Giants to beat
the Redskins and the Eagles to beat the Cowboys next week. Carson Wentz looked
like his old self before the knee injury and the rest of the team followed in
stride. I was hoping for a tie but alas the Eagles won.
WEEK 14
Thursday,
December 6th
Jaguars
[4-8 ] @ Titans [6-6] (8:20pm FOX/NFLN)
The Jags
played stellar defense last week. Can they do it two weeks in a row? I don’t
think so. I’m picking the Titans to win this game. And because I didn’t make it
to the playoffs I don’t care who’s defense I start.
Sunday,
December 9th
Jets
[3-9] @ Bills [4-8] (1pm CBS)
Depending
on what teams actually show up for this game… It’s a real toss up. I’ll pick
the Bills to win but I wouldn’t be surprised if they got crushed.
Panthers
[6-6] @ Browns [4-7-1] (1pm FOX)
The
Panthers are in a downward spiral as of late and have only won one road game
all season. The Browns just might beat them. It’s not supposed to be very warm
in Cleveland either. I’m going to pick the Browns to win this game. (This will
certainly ensure a Panthers win.)
Falcons
[4-8] @ Packers [4-7-1] (1pm FOX)
With an
interim head coach the Packers just might win this game. They do better at
home, only losing once this season. At this point they are just playing for
pride, what little they have left anyway. I’m picking the Packers to win
this game.
Ravens
[7-5] @ Chiefs [10-2] (1pm CBS)
The
Chiefs are perfect at home and you don’t mess with perfection. I’m picking the
Chiefs to win this game.
Patriots
[9-3] @ Dolphins [6-6] (1pm CBS)
I would
love to see the Patriots lose but every time I pick them to lose they win. So,
I’m picking the Patriots to win, in hopes that they lose to the Dolphins. The
Dolphins are 5-1 at home while the Patriots are 3-3 on the road...
Saints
[10-2] @ Buccaneers [5-7] (1pm FOX)
Hopefully
the Saints bounce back from that awful game on Thursday night to beat the Bucs
at home. I think they will win. I’m picking the Saints.
NY
Giants [4-8] @ Redskins [6-6] (1pm FOX)
You
know, The Giants really actually could win this. Landon Collins is out for the
rest of the year on IR with a shoulder injury but I like the odds against the
Redskins. I said, until the Giants win two in a row I wouldn’t pick them to
win. They have done their part, so I am doing mine. I’m picking the Giants to
win this game. Don’t let me down boys. GO GMEN!!!!!!
Colts
[6-6] @ Texans [9-3] (1pm CBS)
I think
that the Texans can win 10 in a row. I’m picking them for the win.
Bengals
[5-7] @ Chargers [9-3] (4:05pm CBS)
I’m
picking the Chargers for the win. Hopefully Keenan Allen will have a monster of
a game and I’ll win the consolation bracket…
Broncos
[6-6] @ 49ers [2-10] (4:05pm CBS)
I’m
picking the Broncos to win this game. The Broncos have been looking really good
lately.
Eagles
[6-6] @ Cowboys [7-5] (4:25pm FOX)
I need
the Eagles to win to keep things super close in the division. I think they can
win. But the Cowboys are more likely to win this game. I’m picking the Cowboys.
Steelers
[7-4-1] @ Raiders [2-10] (4:25pm FOX)
I’m
picking the Steelers to win this game. But maybe just maybe the Raiders will
upset. It’s not likely.
Lions
[4-8] @ Cardinals [3-9] (4:25pm FOX)
I’m
picking the Lions to win this game, although the Cardinals played upset last
week over the Packers.
Rams
[11-1] @ Bears [8-4] (8:20pm NBC)
This
should be a really good game to watch. I’m picking the Rams to win because of
Todd Gurley.
Monday,
December 10th
Vikings
[6-5-1] @ Seahawks [7-5] (8:15pm ESPN)
I think I’m going to have to go with the Seahawks at home.
They are playing some really good football lately and the Vikings have been
slipping.
GO
GMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
for the edit Eric!
