Regular Season Week 13

Happy Thanksgiving!

Week 13 will bring football on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday! Before we talk about the Thanksgiving games I want to brag and lament. For the first time this season I won in both leagues in fantasy. I beat my mom by 98 points in one league but it wasn’t enough. I was eliminated from the playoffs. I’m still kinda sorta in the mix for the other league but it’s not looking good. So you’re saying there’s a chance? I went 10-3 on my picks last week, which was very surprising. I thought I did so much worse.  “CMC Ya Next Season” (6-6),  “Won’t You Be My Nabers” (4-8). Week 13 is usually good to me and I’ll need all the luck I can get in my fantasy teams as I play my partner, the love of my life, in both leagues to finish the regular season. I’m projected to lose in both leagues. Cool.

Let’s jump into the recap.

Steelers @ Browns 19-24

This was the first snow globe game of the season and it did not disappoint. I should have picked the Browns. For some reason, as of late, when they play in Cleveland the Browns always beat the Steelers. It was a fun game to watch. Jameis Winston is a riot.

Buccaneers @ NY Giants 30-7

This game went as expected. The Giants are terrible and it’s safe to say that DJ wasn’t the only problem with the team. Speaking of Daniel Jones, the last time I wrote this blog he was still a Giant. Then the timeline took a turn. On Nov. 18  Daniel Jones was benched and Tommy DeVito was named the starter. Nov. 19: Dexter Lawrence publicly disagrees with benching. Nov. 20: Drew Lock is confused as to why he wasn't named starter. Nov. 21: Daboll responds to Lawrence's public comments and Giants play Jones at safety on the scout team. The same day DJ releases a statement, basically saying goodbye. Nov. 22: Giants grant Daniel Jones his release request.

Now back to the game on Nov. 24. Tommy DeVito didn’t even look Malik Nabers' way in the entire first half of the game. Zero targets. Zero looks. It’s fair to say that Daboll has lost the locker room. Even Dexter Lawrence, the rah rah go Giants hype man, said we played like shit. I’m just thankful the season is almost over and we can put this dumpster fire to bed. I’m glad the Bucs had fun stomping the Giants. I have no malice towards Baker Mayfield who celebrated his rushing touchdown with the Tommy Cutlet hand gesture. I like Baker, after all I started him in my fantasy team. I’m just kicking myself for not starting Bucky Irving as well. Next week Bucky, next week. Good win Bucs. SMH Giants. Is the season over yet?

Chiefs @ Panthers 30-27

I still think the Chiefs are the luckiest team in the NFL. I mean, the Panthers almost beat them! The Panthers? Mahomes is playing more like his former self, which is good. I’m not sure what is happening with the rest of the team though. The Panthers have had a few games now that they’ve come close to winning. At least they are trying, that’s more than I can say for the Giants.

Cowboys @ Commanders 34-26

This game was bananas. With just 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter the score was 13-9 Cowboys. A lot happened late in the fourth. Luke Schoonmaker caught a TD pass from Cooper Rush. Then, with 3 minutes and 2 seconds to go the Commanders tight end Zach Ertz caught a touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels, who then ran for a successful two-point conversion. 13 seconds later the Cowboys KaVontae Turpin returned a 99 yard kickoff for a touchdown with a Brandon Aubrey extra point. The Commanders fired back with a field goal by Austin Seibert. Washington then stopped Dallas on defense and with 21 seconds left in the game Terry McLaurin caught a 86 yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels but the Austin Seibert PAT failed. The Cowboys got the ball back with roughly 12 seconds to go and Juanyeh Thomas scored the game winning touchdown with a 43 yard kickoff return. Like I said, bananas. I got this pick wrong.

Patriots @ Dolphins 15-34

Dude. I am so glad I picked up Jonnu Smith. He is definitely a relevant tight end and that’s saying something in this league.  Between him and De’Von Achane my fantasy points kept climbing. Smith had one receiving touchdown while Achane had two! Hooray for points. The Patriots on the other hand just want the season to be over so they can stop losing.

Titans @ Texans 32-27

I’m pretty sure the Texans just looked past this game and the Titans were prepared and took advantage of this. I know I got this pick wrong but with the Titans winning and the Giants losing it means the Giants have a better chance at getting a higher draft pick next season. So, yay!

Lions @ Colts 24-6

Uncharacteristically, the Lions trailed the whole first quarter. In fact they didn’t score any points until the second quarter, and at that point the game was won. The Lions ran all over the Colts, quite literally. All of the Lions touchdowns were rushing TDs. Jared Goff didn’t have a passing TD in this lopsided win.

Vikings @ Bears 30-27 OT

Man! This is what I predicted last week, “This is another divisional game in which I think the Vikings will win, but I hope the Bears figure out how to throw to D.J. Moore much more,” and both came true! Moore was finally relevant! And the Bears lost another super close game.

Broncos @ Raiders 29-19

Bo Nix passed for 273 yards and had two touchdowns to break Denver’s rookie record while the Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew landed hard on his left shoulder late in the game and was replaced by Desmond Ridder. Minshew will miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone, according to multiple reports. The Raiders (2-9) have lost seven consecutive games, its longest skid since the 2017-18 seasons. Ouch.

49ers @ Packers 10-38

The 49ers seem completely lost without their quarterback Brock Purdy under center. It’s also hurting my fantasy team. Deebo and McCaffrey under performed in this loss. The Packers running back Josh Jacobs ran all over the 49ers racking up 3 rushing touchdowns.

Cardinals @ Seahawks 6-16

This was a pretty boring game and another game in which Kylar Murry forgot about Marvin Harrison Jr. So frustrating! The game didn’t get exciting until Coby Bryant returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. I was happy that Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter, it helped me in fantasy, unlike MHJ.

Eagles @ Rams 37-20

Saquon Barkley had his best game to date and set a personal record AND the Eagles franchise record with 255 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Both rushing touchdowns were in the second half of the game and came on runs of 70 and 72 yards. He finished with 46.6 fantasy points for me! Even with his stellar performance this season it wasn’t enough for me to make it into the playoffs in my one fantasy league. Barkley had 302 total yards,  becoming the 12th player in NFL history to top 300, and the first Eagles player ever. He also became the first NFL player with two 70-yard TD runs in a game since Maurice Jones-Drew did it in 2009. Fun fact, or not so fun fact if you’re a Giants fan, Saquon had more total yards in this game than the entire Giants team this week.

Ravens @ Chargers 30-23

Brothers Jim and John Harbaugh faced off again as coaches in the NFL and John  improved to 3-0 in the Harbaugh Bowl. The last time the two faced off it was  Super Bowl 47 where the Ravens beat the 49ers. It must be hard to continually lose to your older brother. Maybe next time Jim. It was definitely an entertaining game, and one that I stayed up till the very end to make sure I won in fantasy. I did. By 4 points. Phew.

WEEK 13

Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 28th

Bears (4-7) @ Lions (10-1) (12:30pm CBS)

The Detroit Lions have played on Thanksgiving 84 times so far, the most in Thanksgiving history. Their record on this day is 37-45-2. The Bears have played 37 times and their record on this day is 20-15-2. The Bears played annually from 1920-38 on Thanksgiving but haven’t played on this day since 2021. I’m rooting for and picking the Lions to win this game. I also picked them last year as they were having an equally incredible year. They lost. I hope they win this year.

NY Giants (2-9) @ Cowboys (4-7) (4:30pm FOX)

The Cowboys have played on Thanksgiving 56 times so far, the second most in Thanksgiving history. Their record on this day is 33-22-1. The Giants have played 16 times and their record on this day is 7-6-3. NY hasn’t played on Thanksgiving since 2022. I’m rooting for the Giants, duh, but would be happy with a tie.  I’m picking the Cowboys for the win. Drew Lock will start for the Giants. Good times. Hey Drew, look, you wanted to be the starter and now you are, so find Malik Nabers early and often. It’s the not so secret way to actually win a game or at least score some points. Obviously I don’t have high, nay, any hope for this team. But it would make my day to have the dumpster fire Giants beat the equally bad Cowboys on Thanksgiving in Jerry World with Jerry Jones pouting at the end. This is my Super Bowl. Go G-MEN. Do something.

Dolphins (5-6) @ Packers (8-3) (8:20pm NBC)

The Packers played their first Thanksgiving game in 1923. They’ve played 37 total games and their record on this day is 15-20-2. They played last year. The Dolphins first Thanksgiving game was in 1973. Their record is 5-2 on the day but they haven’t played since 2011. I’ll be rooting for my fantasy players but picking the Packers to win this Thanksgiving. The Dolphins rarely do well under 40 degrees and it's going to be a balmy 28 degrees at gametime.

Friday, November 29th

Raiders (2-9) @ Chiefs (10-1) (3pm PRIME VIDEO)

This will be a trap game or a blow out. It also could be close I suppose. Heck, with the Chiefs you just never know. A Raiders win would help the Giants get a better draft pick because I’m already assuming that they’ll lose to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. With all that said I am picking the Chiefs to win this game.

Sunday, December 1st

Colts (5-7) @ Patriots (3-9) (1pm CBS)

Neither team is actually good. I am picking the Colts to win this game because they are marginally better.

Steelers (8-3) @ Bengals (4-7) (1pm CBS)

This should be a good game. Really, I just hope it’s high scoring. I need all the points I can get in fantasy. I am going to pick the Steelers to win this game.

Chargers (7-4) @ Falcons (6-5) (1pm CBS)

This feels like it could be a get right game for the Falcons. So I am picking Atlanta to win on Sunday.

Seahawks (6-5) @ Jets (3-8) (1pm FOX)

I’m picking the Seahawks to win this game.

Texans (7-5) @ Jaguars (2-9) (1pm FOX)

The Texans also need a get right game and I think they’ll get the W against the Jags.

Cardinals (6-5) @ Vikings (9-2) (1pm FOX)

Daniel Jones is now a Viking. Don’t worry, Sam Darnold is still their starting quarterback.

I think the Vikings will win this game, and that’s who I’m picking, but I need this game to also be high scoring with Marvin Harrison Jr. actually getting targets and points.

Titans (3-8) @ Commanders (7-5) (1pm CBS)

I’m picking the Commanders to win this game.

Buccaneers (5-6) @  Panthers (3-8) (4:05pm FOX)

I’m starting Baker Mayfield in fantasy so I need the Bucs to win and that’s who I am picking.

Rams (5-6)  @ Saints (4-7) (4:05pm FOX)

It really depends on which version of which team shows up. These are basically the same team. I am picking the Saints to win this game but only because they are the home team. I’m pretty sure I’ll get this pick wrong.

Eagles (9-2) @ Ravens (8-4) (4:25pm CBS)

For the first time this year I’m actually rooting for the Ravens and picking them to win this game.

49ers (5-6) @ Bills (9-2)  (8:20pm NBC/Peacock)

As much as I need Brock Purdy to be better, he’s still questionable to play.  I also need Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey to put up massive points for me in fantasy. I am still picking the Bills to win this game. Go Bills!

Monday, December 2nd

Browns (3-8) @ Broncos (7-5) (8:15pm ESPN)

I’m picking the Broncos to win this game. Please be low scoring.

BYES: NONE

GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the edit Eric!
