Regular Season Week 14
Hello, last month of the year. Also sorry this is so last minute. If it weren't for the last minute, I’d have no time at all. Week 14 brings Byemagedon Part II. With six teams on their bye. Fantasy will be so fun this week! That’s sarcasm. I went 13-3 on my picks last week, “CMC Ya Next Season” (6-7), “Won’t You Be My Nabers” (5-8).
Let’s jump into the recap.
Bears @ Lions 20-23
This game was too close for comfort and the Lions squeaked out a win, but just barely. Pun intended. The Bears had the ball in Lions territory late in the game with a chance to drive for a game tying field goal or go ahead touchdown, but they blew the opportunity.
Caleb Williams threw an incomplete pass as time expired from the Detroit 41 after being sacked with about 30 seconds left, allowing time to run off the clock even though Chicago had one more timeout. Sorry Bears fans, I understand bad coaching and bad clock management as a Giants fan. Chicago has lost six straight, including four by a total of 10 points. That hurts. Head coach Matt Eberflus was fired the next day.
The Lions on the other hand, have their best record after 12 games in team history and their 10-game winning streak ties a franchise record with the 1934 squad. Go Lions!
NY Giants @ Cowboys 20-27
It took over 300 days but the Cowboys finally got their first home win since last season. You’re welcome. The Giants lost Dexter Lawrence and Theo Johnson to season ending injuries during this game. Our quarterbacking is even worse somehow and we lost to the Cowboys. Happy Thanksgiving.
Dolphins @ Packers 17-30
The Dolphins have lost their past 12 regular-season or postseason games in which the temperature at kickoff has been below 40 degrees. It was 27 degrees at kickoff with 10 mph winds, light flurries and a wind chill of 18. The Packers were right at home. They got this win easily and they didn’t look that cold. The Dolphins are probably still trying to warm up.
Raiders @ Chiefs 17-19
Dude. Every week I say the Chiefs are the luckiest SOBs in the NFL. The Raiders were in field goal range with 15 seconds left in the game. But, rather than try for the winning field goal ( Kicker Daniel Carlson had missed three from 50-plus yards ) the Raiders lined up to run a play, hoping to gain a few yards with a throw to the sideline before time expired. Instead, rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped the ball when quarterback Aidian O'Connell wasn't expecting it, and it bounced off the QB's shoulder. Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton pounced on it, and the recovery stood when a flag on the play turned out to be an illegal shift by the Raiders. Another lucky week for the Chiefs and another unlucky week for the Raiders.
Colts @ Patriots 25-24
Anthony Richardson is getting better. He used his arm and his legs to secure this win over the Pats. He threw a 3 yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce with 12 seconds left in the game and ran for the go ahead 2 point conversion. The Patriots had a chance to win the game but Joey Slye missed a 68 yard field goal attempt as time expired.
Steelers @ Bengals 44-38
There should no longer be a quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh. Russell Wilson threw for a season-high 414 yards and three touchdowns in this win over the Bengals. Hey Justin Fields, want to play for the Giants?
Chargers @ Falcons 17-13
This was definitely not the “get right” game the Falcons needed. This was more like, “do we really have to stick with Kirk Cousins” kind of game. Cousins threw four interceptions and zero touchdowns in this loss to the Chargers. It wasn’t a pretty game.
Seahawks @ Jets 26-21
You know I played my partner in both fantasy leagues this week. I’m awful at fantasy football this season so of course my partner is in 2nd place in both leagues. He has Davante Adams on one of his teams and he asked if he should start him. I said, with Aaron Rodgers throwing the football? I wouldn’t! So, of course Rodgers threw to Adams a million times it seemed. Aaron had moments of brilliance this game but he still threw an interception and that’s what I’m going to key in on. Leonard Williams, Seattle's 6’5”, 310lb defensive end, intercepted Rodgers pass and took it 92 yards for the pick six. Williams became the first player since 1982 with multiple sacks (two), an interception-return TD and a blocked kick in a game. Williams’ interception return for a score was the longest in NFL history by a defensive lineman, according to ESPN Research. Also, Seattle won the game because of his efforts. Good job!
Texans @ Jaguars 23-20
This game will be remembered for linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s violent hit on Trevor Lawrence in the second quarter that prompted a sideline clearing brawl. Al-Shaair hit Lawrence with an elbow as the defenseless quarterback slid to the ground following a 6 yard scramble. Al-Shaair was ejected from the game and apologized for this hit after the game saying he was already expecting to hit him before Lawrence gave himself up but his momentum was too much to stop the hit. It was ugly. After Lawrence left the game the Texans were able to get the win. The Jags were never able to regroup.
Cardinals @ Vikings 22-23
The Vikings won their 5th straight game. Their hero was Sam Darnold who threw a TD pass to Aaron Jones with 1:13 left to win the game. Of course I benched Marvin Harrison Jr to start Chubba Hubbard who got me a whopping 2.3 points while Harrison had 17 points on my bench. I’m sure when I start MHJ next week he’ll have 2.3 points.
Titans @ Commanders 19-42
Jayden Daniels had 4 total touchdowns on the day, 3 passing and one rushing. He did have an interception but the Titans didn’t put up much of a fight after that.
Buccaneers @ Panthers 26-23 OT
Baker Mayfield is killing me with interceptions in fantasy. I’m glad the Bucs won but I really needed the points. I already lamented the lack of points from Chubba Hubbard.
Rams @ Saints 21-14
I started Taysom Hill in the league that I lost in. I should have started Jonu Smith. I tinker too much with my line up. Hill was carted off the field with a season ending injury. The Saints are just decimated.
Eagles @ Ravens 24-19
Damnit Ravens! Fun fact though, Lamar has only lost to NFC teams twice in his career. Saquon Barkley has been a part of both of those losses.
49ers @ Bills 10-35
This was another snow game and it started out really fun. But the ending for the 49ers was not fun. The 49ers not only lost the game they also lost 2 running backs to season ending injuries, Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason. RIP my fantasy team. The Bills had one of their best days. Josh Allen became the NFL's first quarterback and seventh player in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown passing, rushing, and receiving in the same game. On a play that should have ended in a tackle for a loss, Josh Allen tossed the ball to Amari Cooper, who caught it one handed bobbling the whole way. About to be tackled he pitched the ball back to Allen. Josh sprinted to the left corner of the end zone and dove past the pylon for the touchdown. In fantasy, this play would go down as a passing and receiving touchdown for Josh Allen, a 10.82 point play. It was ridiculous. And of course, my partner had started Allen in fantasy against me. Yeah This game is why I lost. He started Allen and I started McCaffrey. Woot! Go Bills!
Browns @ Broncos 32-41
Even though the Browns lost this game both Jameis Winston and Jerry Judy had record breaking days. Winston threw for a franchise record 497 yards and four touchdowns. Jeudy had a touchdown including nine catches for 235 yards (the most in NFL history by a receiver against his former team) . I started the Broncos defense and wanted the game to be low scoring. Thanks to Winston, who threw two pick sixes, the Broncos defense had three total picks for 171 interception return yards against him. I won in the league where I started the Broncos defense.
WEEK 14
Thursday, December 5th
Packers (9-3) @ Lions (11-1) (8:15pm Prime Video)
I picked the Lions to win.
Sunday, December 8th
Saints (4-8) @ NY Giants (2-10) (1pm FOX)
The Giants will lose this game and the rest of the games this season. I picked up the Saints defense in fantasy and am starting them this week. Go g-men… I’m picking the Saints to win this game.
Browns (3-8) @ Steelers (9-3) (1pm CBS)
The Browns have already beat the Steelers once this season. They always play them well. I think this will be a close game but I do think the Steelers will win at home and that’s who I’m picking to win this game.
Falcons (6-6) @ Vikings (10-2) (1pm FOX)
Will Kirk Cousins throw to his team this week? Last week he had 4 interceptions and no touchdowns. I guess we’ll just have to see. I’m picking the Vikings to win this game.
Raiders (2-10) @ Buccaneers (6-6) (1pm CBS)
I’m picking the Bucs to win this game. I am just crossing my fingers that Baker Mayfield and Bucky Irving have a lot of fantasy points.
Panthers (3-9) @ Eagles (10-2) (1pm FOX)
Well, I’ll be rooting for the Panthers but picking the Eagles to win this game.
Jaguars (2-10) @ Titans (3-9) (1pm CBS)
Trevor Lawrence is out for the rest of the season for the Jags. I am picking the Titans to win this game.
Jets (3-9) @ Dolphins (5-7) (1pm CBS)
I’m picking the Dolphins to win this game and I’m expecting/needing a lot of fantasy points from Jonu Smith and De’von Achane.
Seahawks (7-5) @ Cardinals (6-6) (4:05pm CBS)
An Angry Birds game. Do you remember that game? Flinging birds into pigs? Anyway.
I just want this game to be high scoring with a lot of passes to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jaxson Smith-Njigba. Points! I need points! I’m picking the Seahawks to win this game.
Bills (10-2) @ Rams (6-6) (4:25pm FOX)
I’m picking the Bills to win this game. Go Bills!
Bears (4-8) @ 49ers (5-7) (4:25pm FOX
This is probably going to be a very evenly matched game in which both teams are struggling. I’m going to pick the 49ers to win but only because they are home and the Bears are notorious for losing close games.
Chargers (8-4) @ Chiefs (11-1) (8:20pm NBC/Peacock)
I’m picking the Chiefs to win this game and I’m sure it's going to be ridiculous like all their other wins.
Monday, December 9th
Bengals (4-8) @ Cowboys (5-7) (8:15pm ESPN)
I’m picking the Bengals to win, only because I don’t want to pick the Cowboys.
BYES: Ravens, Broncos, Colts, Patriots, Commanders, Texans
GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
