Regular Season Week 17

Happy almost New Year! I hope you are having safe and happy holidays. First of all I want to congratulate my partner who won our fantasy football league this season!!!!! Woot woot Say Uncle! I finished 7th. I didn’t watch a ton of football last week so the recaps will be brief.  I went 9-7 on my picks.

Before we get into week 17 let’s recap week 16.

Saints @ Rams 22-30

This game seems so long ago. The Rams did indeed win this game. The Saints tried to make a comeback but the Rams said no thank you.

Bengals @ Steelers 11-34

Thank god this was the last week of fantasy football for me. I purposefully benched George Pickens because he hasn’t been a team player and he hasn’t put up hardly any points in fantasy. Honesty the two should go hand in hand. Anyway, Pickens racked up 35.5 points on my bench after 4 receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Of course the Steelers won this game.

Bills @ Chargers 24-22

Josh Allen had all 3 of Buffalo’s touchdowns in this win over the Chargers. He had two rushing touchdowns and one passing to Gabe Davis.

Twas the day before Christmas…

Usually when football isn’t going my way (fantasy or the Giants) I go into the kitchen and bake. Being the day before Christmas  I had a lot of present wrapping to do. I had planned to watch football all day as I wrapped presents for my loved ones but I was so frustrated with my fantasy team that I decided my day would be better spent upstairs in my office watching Christmas movies and wrapping presents than watching stupid football.

I’m not going to lie. I didn’t watch a lot or any of these games.

Browns @ Texans 36-22

I thought CJ Stroud would be back for the Texans and that’s why I’d picked Houston to win. Well Stroud did not play and that's why the Texans lost.

Commanders @ Jets 28-30

The Jets in the first half were MUCH better than the Jets in the 2nd half. In the first half the Jets had 27 points and held the Commanders to just one touchdown. They allowed the Commanders to score 3 touchdowns in the second half and let them right back into the game.  I guess the Jets thought they’d scored enough points in the first half as they only scored a field goal in the second half and that was enough to win the game.

Seahawks @ Titans 20-17

The Seahawks started off slowly but gained momentum by the fourth quarter. Seattle had just one field goal in the first half while the Titans were up a touchdown on them. The switch was flipped in the second half of the game with the Titans only scoring a touchdown while the Seahawks had a field goal in the third and two touchdowns in the fourth, the last one being the game winner.

Colts @ Falcons 10-29

Jonathan Taylor was back for this game and he even scored a touchdown but that’s pretty much it for the Colts. Instead it was Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo who was the real MVP of this game. Koo had 5 field goals and one extra point in this win for the Falcons.

Packers  @ Panthers 33-30

The Panthers almost won two in a row. Almost. Sorry Carolina, at least you made it a game worth watching.

Lions @ Vikings 30-24

It was this game that was the catalyst for moving to upstairs wrapping and Christmas movies. I was so frustrated by the lack of targets to Sam LaPorta that I was really getting bummed out. I’m super glad that the Lions won! It’s their first time winning their division since the early 1990’s. Congratulations! Detroit Lions fans are the true meaning of a football fan. It hasn’t been easy. But you haven’t given up. You are the definition of tenacity.

Jags @ Buccaneers 12-30

The Bucs have now won 4 in a row and the Jags are now in a downward spiral.

Cardinals @ Bears 16-27

The Bears gave their fans quite a win over the Cards. Justin Fields had a rushing and a passing touchdown in this win.

Cowboys @ Dolphins 20-22

Miami did just enough to win this game and a win is a win. I usually like watching the Cowboys lose but I was too busy watching A Christmas Story. That was time well spent.

Patriots @ Broncos 26-23

The Broncos were 7.5 point favorites before the game started. The Patriots were the fourth underdog to win at Mile High in coach Sean Payton's first season. This upset has left the Broncos with just a 6% chance of ending their eight-year playoff drought, according to the NFL's calculations. It’s not looking good for Denver.

Raiders @ Chiefs 20-14

I caught about three seconds of this game and that’s only after I looked over at my partner who had the game on his phone as we were opening up presents at my parents house Monday afternoon. What I saw wasn’t pretty and I am very glad that I didn’t watch this game. I really don’t know what’s going on with the Chiefs. I feel like a broken record. What’s their deal? What’s wrong with Kelce? What’s wrong with Mahomes? What’s wrong with the Chiefs? This was a divisional game in which they should have dominated. Instead, they lost. Again. At one point something happened and Travis Kelce threw his helmet. Someone on the sideline picked it up to give it back to him and Andy Reid stopped them and wouldn’t let him give Kelce his helmet back. The Raiders  became the first NFL team since 2000 to win without completing a pass after the first quarter and only the fifth team to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium without scoring an offensive touchdown.

NY Giants @ Eagles 25-33

This was not the score I had expected. We were at my partner’s parents house opening more presents during this game so I missed most of it. I would check in from time to time to see how the Giants were doing. I missed Tommy DeVito getting benched and I missed all the touchdowns but from what I read it was the officiating that once again made it much easier for the Eagles to win. I mean the Giants looked like they were playing competitive ball. With the loss last week we have no hopes of making the playoffs so now I just hope we can play spoilers.

Ravens @ 49ers 33-19

Brock Purdy came back down to earth hard. At one point the kid had negative fantasy points. Purdy had 4 interceptions and zero touchdowns in this loss. It was pretty ugly if you’re a 9ers fan.

 WEEK 17

Thursday, December 28th

Jets (6-9) @ Browns (10-5)  (8:15pm PRIME VIDEO)

I’m picking the Browns to win this game.

Saturday, December 30th

Lions (11-4) @ Cowboys (10-5) (8:15pm ABC/ESPN/ESPN+)

I’ll be rooting for the Lions and hoping my pick is wrong because I’m picking the Cowboys to win this game.

Sunday, December 31st

Dolphins (11-4) @ Ravens (12-3) (1pm CBS)

I’m picking the Ravens to win this game.

Patriots (4-11) @ Bills (9-6) (1pm CBS)

I’m picking the Bills to win this divisional game.

Falcons (7-8) @ Bears (6-9)  (1pm CBS)

I’m picking the Bears to win this game. They are stronger at home and the Falcons are weaker on the road.

Raiders (8-7) @ Colts (8-7) (1pm CBS)

I feel like I never pick either of these teams correctly. I’ll pick the Raiders to win this week.

Panthers (2-13) @ Jaguars (8-7)  (1pm CBS)

I’m picking the Jags to win this game.

Titans (5-10) @  Texans (8-7) (1pm FOX)

I’m picking the Texans to win this game.

Rams (8-7) @ NY Giants (5-10) (1pm FOX)

Cool. The Giants have won 3 games at home and the Rams have won 3 games away. Obviously I’ll be rooting for the Giants. I think they can win this game but I’m picking the Rams to win. It’s better to pick against them, and then be happy the Giants won even if I got the pick wrong, than to pick the Giants to win and be doubly disappointed.

Saints (7-8) @ Buccaneers (8-7) (1pm FOX)

I’m picking the Bucs to win this game.

Cardinals (3-12) @ Eagles (11-4) (1pm FOX)

Another angry birds game. I think it would be hilarious if the Cards could pull off the upset but I’ll be picking the Eagles to win this game.

49ers (11-4) @ Commanders (4-11) (1pm FOX)

I think the 49ers will bounce back and win this game.

Steelers (8-7) @ Seahawks (8-7) (4:05pm FOX)

I think the Seahawks will win this game and that’s who I’m picking.

Bengals (8-7) @ Chiefs (9-6) (4:25pm CBS)

The Chiefs better get things right. I’ve picked them to win all of their games this season. I’m going to pick them to win this game too but I don’t expect anything spectacular.

Chargers (5-10) @  Broncos (7-8) (4:25pm CBS)

I hope the Broncos lose and lose badly. What they are doing to Russell Wilson is not cool. Wilson is the league's seventh-rated passer, with 26 touchdown passes and just 8 interceptions this season. But Denver is benching him so they don’t have to give him more money. Russell already has $39 million guaranteed for 2024, but he has an additional $37M that would become guaranteed if he can’t pass a physical by early March. Denver’s move to sit him assures that money won’t trigger.  Jarrett Stidham will start the final two games for the Broncos. With all that said I am picking the Broncos to lose.

Packers (7-8) @ Vikings (7-8) (8:20pm NBC)

The Packers will be without CB Jaire Alexander because he was suspended for one game after he messed up the coin toss in the previous game. The guy isn’t even one of the captains and just invited himself into the meeting in the middle of the field. With that said I am picking the Vikings to win this game.

GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the edit Eric!
