Regular Season Week 9
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
In non football news, the World Series ended last night with a Dodgers win, baseball is over for 2024. Saturday is daylight savings and we set our clocks back one hour. Tuesday is election day. Don’t set the country back 50 years. Make a plan to vote and go and do the thing. Breathe.
This football season has been trying. It’s hard to write this report. The Giants are straight up killing me, as are my fantasy teams. I went 12-4 on my picks last week and I actually won a game in fantasy! “CMC Ya Next Season” (3-5), “Won’t You Be My Nabers” (2-6).
Let’s jump into the recap!
Vikings @ Rams 20-30
Welcome back Cooper Kupp and Puka Nakua! Holy moly. The Rams are a good team again! The Vikings looked shocked. Maybe they just looked past this game thinking it would be an easy win? Or maybe they aren’t as good as their record says they are. Regardless, I was happy to see the Rams win but not happy that I got the pick wrong.
Jets @ Patriots 22-25
I got this pick wrong as well and I am not mad about it. The Jets are imploding and it's wonderful to watch. Also the Patriots got the win with their backup QB Jacoby Brissett, even better.
Eagles @ Bengals 37-17
I think Jaylen Hurts is a football hogger. He could have handed the ball off at least once for Saquon to get into the endzone but NOOOOoooooOOOOoooooo he had to have 3 rushing touchdowns in this game. Not cool.
Packers @ Jaguars 30-27
Jordan Love left the game with an injury and the Packs still beat the Jags.
Titans @ Lions 14-52
It was National Tight End’s Day so of course Sam LaPorta finally had a good day... on my bench. Damnit. Oh well. TE Day is once a year so I am not counting on another big scoring game for LaPorta. The Lions were merciless in this lopsided win. Jared Goff has so many options that he threw 3 different touchdown passes to 3 different receivers. It’s good to see the Lions on the winning side of games this season. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Lions in the Super Bowl.
Falcons @ Buccaneers 31-26
Baker Mayfield arrived to the game in a Chris Godwin jersey. It was sweet to show support for his teammate who is out for the season and is a free agent next year. Being National Tight End’s Day it was Cade Otten who had a pair of TD receptions from Mayfield. The Bucs could have won the game but Baker threw two costly interceptions and Kirk Cousins and the Falcons capitalized on mistakes. Kyle Pitts, Atlanta TE, also had two touchdowns on the day.
Cardinals @ Dolphins 28-27
Thank god Tua is back because Devon Achane is relevant again. Also, Marvin Harrison Jr. actually made an appearance. Finally. It’s about time.
Ravens @ Browns 24-29
Yeah. I got this pick wrong, but so did everyone else. I said last week, “There is no chance for the Browns.” What I should have said is, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance.”
Colts @ Texans 20-23
The big news for both these teams came after the game concluded. Colts fans were worried for their quarterback after he sat out a play in the third quarter. Was he injured? No, just tired. Well, now he’s been benched for an old guy (Joe Flacco) who doesn’t get tired. The Texans, even though they won the game, lost Stefon Diggs for the season to a non contact injury.
Saints @ Chargers 8-26
If you had never heard the name Ladd McConkey, that may have changed since this game. McConkey had two touchdown catches, including a 60-yard score in the third quarter, and became the first Chargers rookie receiver in 11 years to have a 100-yard receiving game. On the other side of the ball the Saints continue their downward spiral. Saints QB Derek Carr’s backup, Spencer Rattler, was benched for Jake Haener in the third quarter. Not pretty.
Bills @ Seahawks 31-10
Other than not looking toward Amari Cooper, and Josh Allen throwing his first interception of the season, the Bills played a pretty lovely game. Yay Bills!
Bears @ Commanders 15-18
I’m actually pretty sick and tired of hearing about this game. The Bears were already celebrating on the sideline when Jayden Daniels threw a hail mary, his only touchdown of the game, ending the Bears' fun.
Panthers @ Broncos 14-28
Rookie QB Bo Nix is looking pretty legit. Nix had 3 passing touchdowns in this romp over the Panthers.
Chiefs @ Raiders 27-20
The Chiefs struggled a little bit in this game but they got the win and they are still the only team to not have lost yet this season. Their defense stepped up when Patrick Mahomes threw a costly interception. But, fun fact, Mahomes passed for 262 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 30,000 yards. He accomplished that in his 103rd game. Also, he’s still sitting on my bench in fantasy, and on my bench he’ll stay.
Cowboys @ 49ers 24-30
George Kittle, running his mouth on the sideline years ago, came up with National Tight End’s Day. It started off as a joke and now it’s a thing. Kittle himself celebrated the day with two touchdowns. His success was my demise in fantasy. I was hoping he wore the same shirt as he did the last time they played the Cowboys. If you know, you know.
NY Giants @ Steelers 18-26
What to say about this game. Oh! I know! BENCH DANNY JONES! As long as he’s the starting QB of the Giants they will lose. The thing Giants fans feel almost every game is, “ok, so you’re telling me there’s a chance.” This, my friends, is called false hope. For instance, T.J. Watt strip-sacked Daniel Jones with less than three minutes to go to end a New York drive, but then our defense stepped up and got the ball back! (I will not speak ill of our defense) The defense should have just scored or the kick returner should have run all the way back for a touchdown. But no, they put the ball back into DJ’s hands and rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop picked Jones off with 42 seconds to play to end the game and the hope of a win. I like coach Daboll, but I wish he’d have the balls to bench DJ and start anyone else. After the game Daboll said of Jones, “DJ feels terrible.” Same coach, same. Once again Jones didn’t have any touchdowns but a costly interception. SMH. Also, the Yankees lost so that didn’t help either.
WEEK 9
HALLOWEEN!!! Thursday, October 31st
Texans (6-2) @ Jets (2-6) (8:15pm PRIME VIDEO)
I’m picking the Texans to win this game. Though I’m not sure if I’ll stay up for the entirety of this game. As much as I’d like to watch the Jets continue to implode, I’ve stayed up late every night this week watching sports and this girl is tired.
Sunday, November 3rd
Dolphins (2-5) @ Bills (6-2) (1pm CBS)
With my other NY teams sucking I am really going to need a win from my side piece. I will be rooting for, and picking, the Bills to win this divisional matchup. I just hope it’s high scoring because I’d like to win in fantasy, though I don’t hold out much hope for that anymore.
Broncos (5-3) @ Ravens (5-3) (1pm CBS)
The Ravens got embarrassed by the Browns last week. I think they’ll play better this week. They did just acquire Diontae Johnson from the Panthers. Johnson is good, but the Ravens already have too many mouths to feed in the receiver game. I’m not sure how much this acquisition is going to help them. I’m picking the Ravens to win this game, but I hope it’s very low scoring, as I have the Broncos defense and I need all the points.
Chargers (4-3) @ Browns (2-6) (1pm CBS)
The Browns look like a completely different team (for the better) with Jameis Winston under center. I’m still going to pick the Chargers to win this game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I was wrong.
Saints (2-6) @ Panthers (1-7) (1pm CBS)
This is a division rival game but both teams are really struggling. I mean, their combined winning record is just 3 games and we are in week 9. Derek Carr is supposed to start this game after missing the last three to an oblique injury. With Carr starting I am picking the Saints to win this game.
Raiders (2-6) @ Bengals (3-5) (1pm FOX)
I’m picking the Bengals to win this game. The Raiders just aren’t good this year.
Commanders (6-2) @ NY Giants (2-6) (1pm FOX)
Normally I would pick the Giants to win this game. The Commanders are usually the only team the Giants beat. But not this year. As long as Jones is the starting QB we will lose. I’m picking the Giants to lose this game, it’ll be another heartbreaker.
Cowboys (3-4) @ Falcons (5-3) (1pm FOX)
Kirk Cousins used to face the Cowboys twice a season when he played for Washington. Well now he’ll face them with a new team, arguably better than when he was a Redskin. I’m picking the Falcons to win this game.
Patriots (2-6) @ Titans (1-6) (1pm FOX)
Another matchup with three combined wins. I’m sure this game will be riveting. I’m picking the Titans to win this game, but only because they are the home team.
Bears (4-3) @ Cardinals (4-4) (4:05pm CBS)
I guess it depends on which quarterback shows up for both teams. Both Caleb Williams and Kyler Murray have had amazing games and awful games. I guess I’ll pick the Cards to win because they are the home team and have won at home this season, while the Bears have yet to win an away game.
Jaguars (2-6) @ Eagles (4-4) (4:05pm CBS)
I’ll be rooting for the Jags but picking the Eagles to win this game.
Lions (6-1) @ Packers (6-2) (4:25pm FOX)
Another division rival! This one should be good if both starting quarterbacks can play. Jordan Love suffered a groin injury last week and had to leave the game while Jared Goff didn’t practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury. I think both QBs will play and I am picking the Lions to win this game. You can tape an ankle, you can’t really tape a groin.
Rams (3-4) @ Seahawks (4-4) (4:25pm FOX)
With the return of Kupp and Nakua the Rams are dangerous. The Seahawks seem to be hot and cold at best. I am picking the Rams to win this game.
Colts (4-4) @ Vikings (5-2) (8:20pm NBC/Peacock)
Joe Flacco will get the start for the Colts. The Vikings have lost two in a row. I don’t think they’ll lose three. I’m picking the Vikings to win this game.
Monday, November 4th
Buccaneers (4-4) @ Chiefs (7-0) (8:15pm ABC/ESPN)
I want/need this to be another high scoring game. Both my teams in fantasy will come down to this game. I’m picking the Chiefs to win and continue their undefeated streak.
BYES: Steelers, 49ers
GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
