Regular Season Week 2

Welp, week one is in the books.  There were a LOT of teams that came into this season very, very, very unprepared. That includes my Giants and my fantasy team. I did NOT do well, nor did my favorite football team.  Maybe they should change their name to spiders, because seemingly everyone wants to stomp a spider and that's what happened to the Giants, they got stomped. I really thought at the end of week one no fan could feel as bad as a Giants fan. Then Monday night football happened. Sure Aaron Rodgers is out for the rest of the season with a torn achilles, but the Jets actually scored some points and got the W. Your defense is pretty amazing too. My team though? There is nothing, nothing, nothing about that game that was good or worth writing about.  I’m pretty sure the Jets will still win more games than the team that shares MetLife with them… But I digress.

So yes, week one is in the books. I went 6-10 in my picks, I’m pretty sure that’s also my worst ever start to a season. After this recap, let’s never look back.

Lions @ Chiefs 21-20

It was very evident that Patrick Mahomes missed Travis Kelce. It was also evident that the Chiefs wide receivers, as many as there are, were not helpful when it came to catching the ball consistently. At first, I was a little upset that the Giants traded away Kadarius Toney last season and then this preseason they also traded away Richie James to the Chiefs. I thought, yeah this is what the Chiefs need, more wide receivers. I’m not mad at the Giants anymore. In the first half Toney bobbled a perfectly thrown pass from Mahomes that turned into a pick 6 for the Lions. Cool. Then he dropped another great pass late in the fourth quarter, that if it had been caught, it would’ve been a touchdown. Toney finished with 1 point in fantasy while James finished with 1.6 points. I guess the Lions wanted the win more and I guess the Chiefs just looked past this game as an easy W… I started this season 0-1 on my picks. Awesome. I guess I also just looked past this game as an easy win.

Texans @ Ravens 9-25

The Ravens won this game but also suffered a major loss in doing so. Running back  J.K. Dobbins left the game with a torn achilles. His season is over. The Ravens were also without tight end Mark Andrews who is nursing a quad injury, but Andrews should be back in the lineup next week. The Texans have a lot of work to do with a new quarterback, head coach, and many other “new” people on the team.

Bengals @ Browns 3-24

I still can’t believe the Browns won this game. I mean, they didn’t look good, but the Bengals somehow looked worse. Joe Burrow, who is the highest paid player in the NFL, racked up a whopping 3.18 points in fantasy. I guess that’s why you pay him the big bucks. I mean the weather didn’t help anyone. It was pouring the entire time. It was a sloppy game.

Buccaneers @ Vikings 20-17

Baker Mayfield spent the first half of the game really studying the defense and by the second half he had them all figured out. He identified the defensive setup and positioning and knew what cover they were going to run. Mayfield had a very successful second half, which got his new team the win.

Titans @ Saints 15-16

I was wrong. The Saints came to play. Derek Carr has made the adjustments to help his new team win ball games. But it was the Saints defense that really helped. They picked off Ryan Tannehill 3 times and made his day a nightmare. I think the Titans really should look into another starting QB. He couldn’t find DeHop and Derrick Henry was practically MIA. The Titans are in trouble unless they make some changes.

Panthers @ Falcons 10-24

Even though the Panthers unveiled the number one draft pick in Bryce Young, it was the Falcons Bijan Robinson that stole the highlight reel. Robinson had his first touchdown and set up another with a long run. On the other hand Young was intercepted twice and didn’t complete a pass longer than 14 yards. Both teams have work to do. But it’s ok, they’ve got the whole season ahead to fix things.

Jaguars @ Colts 31-21

The Jags hadn’t won in Indianapolis the last 5 times they played there. It was becoming “a thing”. But with wide receiver Calvin Ridley back for the Jags and RB Travis Etienne doing his thing, Jacksonville was on point. Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson threw his first interception in the NFL but shook it off and remained calm. I think the Colts are starting to realize they need Jonathan Taylor back asap.

49ers @ Steelers  30-7

Brock Purdy didn’t look like he had elbow surgery in February of this year. He fell right back into throwing passes and scoring touchdowns. The 49ers were great on offense and seemingly even better on defense. Their defense sacked Kenny Pickett 5 times and intercepted him twice. Pittsburgh either punted or turned the ball over in each of its first five possessions as the 49ers quickly built a 20-0 lead. This was one of the only picks that I got correct, and I wanted the Steelers to do something as I have WR George Pickens in my fantasy lineup. Hopefully, at least Pickens will get better!

Cardinals @ Commanders 16-20

Sam Howell, the starting quarterback for the Commanders, fared a little better than Joshua Dobbs, the Cardinals  mystery QB. Not naming a starting quarterback heading into the game was the least of the Cardinals problems. They just aren’t good. And I hope they stay that way another week. It may be the only chance the Giants have this season to win a game. I’m sorry, back to talking about this game. Both teams have problems but this was one of the few instances that the home field advantage helped their team win.

Raiders @ Broncos 17-16

The Raiders spoiled Sean Payton’s first game as the head coach of the Broncos. When Jacobi Myers played in New England the wide receiver had 1 touchdown the entire season. Now that he is a Raider, Jimmy G helped Myers score twice! With this win, and losses by all the other teams in their division, the Raiders sit in first place after week one.

Dolphins @ Chargers 36-34

44.5 points. That’s how many fantasy points Tyreek Hill had at the end of this game. It’s no wonder the Dolphins won. Sorry for your loss to all those people who had to go up against anyone who had Hill in fantasy. The guy is unreal. The plays that he makes are crazy. I wish he played for the Giants. The Chargers looked like they were going to get the win, but then Tyreek happened. Better luck next time Chargers.

Eagles @ Patriots 25-20

Ok. The Eagles won the game but they didn’t look amazing. They got lucky. Maybe they looked past the Patriots? Maybe the Patriots got a lot better this year? Who knows. Maybe it’s just because it’s week one and crazy things happen in week one.

Packers @ Bears 38-20

Jordan Love is good. The Packers will be fine without Rodgers. The Bears still need a lot of help. The End.

Rams @ Seahawks 30-13

What in the world was going on in week one?!?! The Rams, who had been completely written off without Cooper Kupp, had 3 receiving touchdowns? What?! I really didn’t see that coming. I’m not gonna lie, I really expected more from the Seahawks. DK Metcalf only had one touchdown and that is unacceptable.

Cowboys @ NY Giants 40-0

NO.

I’ve typed. Deleted. Retyped. Deleted. All I can say about this game is.

NO.

Bills @ Jets 16-22 OT

Well, this game didn’t go as expected. Aaron Rodgers made it four plays before tearing his achilles. That’s basically the story of Monday night. The Jets Super Bowl dreams have been crushed. It’s a real bummer because the Jets have some really talented players on their roster. Most talented, Garett Wilson, had an amazing touchdown catch to mark the first ever from Zach Wilson.  First Garrett had to deflect the ball away from the defender and then tip it back to himself to then catch it while on his back in the endzone. In other news, the Bills looked awful. They had no excuses. The Jets defense was incredible and ultimately kept them in the game. Fun fact, the defense was my top scorer in fantasy this week. Did I mention I didn’t do well in fantasy? Anyway, The Manning cast was great. I love the banter between Peyton and Eli. Tennis star John McEnroe and retired quarterback for half the teams in the NFL, Ryan Fitzpatrick, were the guests. The end of the game was a walk off punt return in overtime for the Jets unbelievable win.

WEEK 2

Thursday, September 14th

Vikings (0-1) @ Eagles (1-0) (8:15pm PRIME VIDEO)

Sorry I didn’t get to post on Thursday night. Work life got in the way. Damn the man! I picked the Eagles to win before the game started. I get I’m already better at picks than week one, in that I got the first one correct in week 2.

Sunday, September 17th

Raiders (1-0) @ Bills (0-1) (1pm CBS)

I think the Bills will have a bounce back game. They’ll be playing at home and the sun will be shining. Also, Bills fans will bring all the love and good juju to Buffalo. I’m picking the Bills to win this game.

Packers (1-0) @ Falcons (1-0) (1pm FOX)

Even though both teams won last week, and neither game was close, I’m picking the Packers to win this game. Jordan Love looked really good. I’ll have to admit I was surprised at his performance. I was also shocked that the Falcons had also won last week. I’ll be equally shocked if they do it again this week.

Seahawks (0-1) @ Lions (1-0) (1pm FOX)

Well the Lions fans already think they are going to the Super Bowl this year after they knocked off the champions in week one. I don’t know if they are contenders yet but I am picking them to win this game. I just hope it’s really high scoring and Geno Smith can actually find DK Metcalf for more than one touchdown.

Colts (0-1) @ Texans (0-1)  (1pm FOX)

This will be the game of the rookie quarterbacks facing off for the first time in their NFL careers. C.J. Stroud of the Texans  and Anthony Richardson of the Colts are friends in real life that have known each other since highschool. I’m picking the Texans to win this game, but only because they are the home team.

Ravens (1-0) @ Bengals (0-1) (1pm CBS)

You know who else needs a bounce back game? That would be the Bengals. They looked so bad last week that they can only improve now, right? The Ravens are already dealing with some serious injuries and will not be playing completely healthy. I am picking the Bengals to bounce back and win their home opener.

Chiefs (0-1) @ Jaguars (1-0)  (1pm CBS)

The Chiefs are also looking to win their own bounce back game. Maybe, they’ll take their opponent a little bit more seriously this week. It should  help that Travis Kelce will be back from missing the first game due to injury. I need a lot of fantasy points from Mahomes so I’m picking the Chiefs to win this game.

Chargers (0-1) @ Titans (0-1)  (1pm CBS)

The Chargers will most likely be without RB Austin Ekler and that severely hurts their chances of winning this game. As for the Titans, Ryan Tannehill is coming off his worst game of his career and will be looking for a bounce back game himself. I don’t have much confidence in either team. Even if Tannehill does a 180 he’ll most likely be without WR DeAndre Hopkins, which screws me in fantasy. Ugh. I guess I’m picking the Chargers to win this game.

Bears (0-1) @ Buccaneers (1-0) (1pm FOX)

Baker Mayfield looked much better than Justin Fields did last week at their respective quarterback positions. On that little observation I’m going to say that the Buccaneers will win this week as they go up against the Bears.

NY Giants (0-1)  @ Cardinals (0-1) (4:05pm FOX)

The Cardinals are ranked 31 and the Giants are ranked 32 in the NFL after week one. Good news Giants fans, we can only go up from here. We are already at rock bottom. Sure, if we win we’ll be ranked 31, but that’s better than rock bottom. Sorry Cardinals fans, you’ll be seeing rock bottom soon if we can pull off this win. I am going against my rule of only picking the Giants after they win because if they don’t win this game I don’t think they’ll be able to win another game this season. Therefore, I am picking the Giants to win this game. Go G-men.

49ers (1-0) @ Rams (1-0) (4:05pm FOX)

It’s a good thing the Rams won last week cause I’m pretty sure they are going to lose this game. Well, maybe it won’t be as much the Rams losing but the 49ers winning. I am picking the 49ers to win this game.

Jets (1-0) @ Cowboys (1-0) (4:25pm CBS)

It would be really great if the Jets could beat the Cowboys. I’ll be rooting for the Jets, that’s for sure but I’m picking the other team for the win.

Commanders (1-0) @ Broncos (0-1) (4:25pm CBS)

The theme of this week is bounce back games and that’s what the Broncos need as well. Russell Wilson needs to take his team on his back and beat the Commanders. And that’s what I’m picking. I’m picking the Broncos for the win.

Dolphins (1-0) @ Patriots (0-1) (8:20pm NBC)

If the Patriots can bottle up Tyreek Hill they have a chance to win this game. I’ll be rooting for the Patriots but I’m not sure they have what it takes to stop Hill. Not so fun fact for Patriots fans, Tua Tagovailoa is undefeated when playing against Bill Belichick. Sorry Pats fans, I’m picking the Dolphins to win this game.

Monday September 18th

Saints (1-0) @ Panthers (0-1) (7:15pm ESPN)

I’m going with the more experienced quarterback in this matchup. I’m picking Derek Carr to lead the Saints to win this game.

Browns (1-0) @ Steelers (0-1) (8:15pm ABC)

Will this be the last bounce back game of week 2? I know Steelers fans would like this to be the case. These two teams do not like each other. When they meet up it’s always a good rivalry game. The Browns seem to be the Steelers kryptonite. So we’ll just have to wait and see. I have George Pickens on my fantasy team so I’m going to have to pick the Steelers to win this game.

GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the edit Eric!
