Regular Season Week 5
I lost to my partner in fantasy this week, ouch. I went 9-7 on my picks, ehhh. The NY Football Giants are 3-1 on the season, woot!
Dolphins @ Bengals 15-27
The Dolphins are in a bit of hot water. You see, they started Tua Tagovailoa again after the “leg/back” injury that everyone knew was a head injury last week. Tua got hit HARD in the first half and was carted off the field all strapped down. So serious that not even his teammates were allowed around him after the hit. He was rushed to the hospital with apparent head and neck injuries. Thankfully, he had full movement of his extremities and was later released even though he had sustained another concussion. The Dolphins fell apart without Tua in the second half and the Bengals were able to win the game without any problems.
Vikings @ Saints 28-25
I have learned that when you have fantasy players in the London game it's a good idea to set an alarm to make sure your players are active ahead of kick off. I learned this the hard way. Kickoff for this game was at 9:30am Sunday morning. I woke up at 9:32am. I had Kamara in my starting lineup. Kamara didn’t play in this game. The Saints lost the game without him and I lost in fantasy because of him. I also started Dalvin Cook, who was mediocre at best. RBs are garbage this season (except for Saquon, he’s absolutely amazing). The Saints had a chance to win the game with a Wil Lutz 60-yard field goal but the ball hit the upright and bounced out as time expired giving the Vikings the win.
Browns @ Falcons 20-23
I am pretty shocked that the Browns lost this game. Unfortunately they just got out played by the Falcons, which is a sentence I never thought I’d type. Like I said, I didn’t do well on my picks this week. This is one of the many I got wrong.
Bills @ Ravens 23-20
The Bills pulled off one of their biggest comebacks in over a decade. Coming back to be down by 10 points heading into half time the Bills defense really stepped up in the second half, shutting out Baltimore completely. Bills kicker Tyler Bass made a 21-yard field goal as time expired to bring the Bills to 3-1 on the season.
Commanders @ Cowboys 10-25
Backup quarterback Cooper Rush is the first Dallas quarterback in Cowboys history to start 4-0. That’s really all I have to say about this game.
Seahawks @ Lions 48-45
I feel like this game is the first true shootout of the season. Geno Smith and Rashaad Penny were so good for the Seahawks that Seattle never needed to punt, so their punter got the night off. The Lions’ comeback hopes ended when Seattle recovered the onside kick and the ball stayed with the Seahawks for the rest of the game.
Chargers @ Texans 34-24
Austin Ekeler accounted for 3 of the 4 Chargers touchdowns in their win over the Texans. OK, so not all running backs are crap.
Titans @ Colts 24-17
Speaking of running backs, Derrick Henry seemed to have gotten his groove back. Henry rushed for over 100 yards and had a touchdown as well in this win over the Colts. The Titans also held Jonathon Taylor to just 42 yards. The Titans looked good for the first time this season as the Colts continue to struggle.
Bears @ NY Giants 12-20
Never, would I have ever believed you if you’d told me last season that the Giants would start this season at 3-1. But here we are. This wasn’t a pretty game. And when Danny went out with an ankle injury and then Tyrod Taylor went out with a concussion I thought to myself, welp it was good while it lasted. Danny was on fire, not so much passing, but rushed for not one but two touchdowns in this win over the Bears. Saquon Barkley had over 140 yards rushing, because he’s a beast, duh. And the Giants defense stepped up when it mattered and kept the Bears out of the endzone the entire game. It was a fun, yet stressful game to watch. GO G-MEN!
Jaguars @ Eagles 21-29
I was so excited when the Jags started this game up two touchdowns heading into the second quarter. I knew it wouldn’t last but it was really fun to watch until the Eagles came back. I knew it was a long shot that the Jags could beat the Eagles but they did put up a good fight.
NY Jets @ Steelers 24-20
This is another game that was shocking to me. The Steelers started their rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett, probably thinking it was a sure win against the Jets… Pickett was picked off three times and had no passing touchdowns in his starting debut. Zach Wilson is back for the Jets and even though he also threw a couple of picks he had a touchdown and helped his team to another W.
Cardinals @ Panthers 26-16
Baker Mayfield has gone from bad to worse and so has the entire Panthers team. I feel sorry for the guy, really I do. I rooted for him while he was on the Browns but it’s hard to root for him now, he’s so bad. But at least I got this pick correct.
Patriots @ Packers 24-27 OT
This game shouldn’t have been that close to begin with to even go into overtime. How embarrassing for the Packers. I mean the Packers were up against a third string quarterback who’s name is Bailey Zappe… And only won the game in overtime.
Broncos @ Raiders 23-32
The Raiders finally won a game this season. It wasn’t pretty but they finally got it done. I feel bad for Russell Wilson. He accounted for all the Denver touchdowns in this loss to Las Vegas while Carr didn’t have any and still won.
Chiefs @ Buccaneers 41-31
Oh man the Bucs couldn’t get the win for their state but Tom Brady did put up some points for me in fantasy. Maybe if I’d started Godwin over Gabe Davis I might have won this week. Oh well. But seriously, if you have some extra cash, a donation to those affected by hurricane Ian would be solid.
Rams @ SF 49ers 9-24
The real reason I lost fantasy football this week, against my partner, was because of Deebo Samuel. If he wasn’t a dominant part of this game I probably would’ve won. After Deebo scored a touchdown I knew it was over for me and, quite honestly, over for the Rams as well. The best part of this game, and every Monday Night Football game, was the Manningcast. It’s not everyday that you get to see a former roommate just having a casual conversation with the Mannings. I was a little bummed that my name didn’t come up as I remember telling Stephen that if he ever meets a Manning he has to tell them I said hello and I’m a fan.
WEEK 5
Thursday, October 6th
Colts (1-2-1) @ Broncos (2-2) (8:15pm PRIME VIDEO)
Call me crazy, but I think that the Broncos might just win this game. Hear me out, Jonathan Taylor isn’t playing and that’s basically the whole Colts team. Also Russell Wilson is way better than Matt Ryan. I’m picking the Broncos to win.
Sunday, October 9th
NY Giants (3-1) @ Packers (3-1) (9:30am NFLN)
We’ve got another London game. Fun facts: The Giants are undefeated across the pond, this will be their third game while this will be the Packers first appearance. The Packers are favored, of course, but things can go sideways on another continent. The Giants are going to try to go with Danny Jones who seems to be making progress after getting injured last week. I’m just hoping Saquon will have a really good game. In other Giants news they just signed safety Landon Collins back to the roster and he’ll make the trip to London. I think the Giants can win, in fact I know they can win, but will they? I’ll be rooting for them, but I’m going to pick the Packers to win and hope that I’m wrong.
Steelers (1-3) @ Bills (3-1) (1pm CBS)
I’m picking the Bills to win this game. The real fun will be to see how many picks Pickett throws this week.
Chargers (2-2) @ Browns (2-2) (1pm CBS)
I really need the Chargers to stop Nick Chubb. The Chargers don’t need to win, they just need to contain the aforementioned running back. What the heck, I’m picking the Chargers to win.
Texans (0-3-1) @ Jaguars (2-2) (1pm CBS)
I'm picking the Jags to win this game. I don’t think that the Texans have what it takes.
Bears (2-2) @ Vikings (3-1) (1pm FOX)
Dalvin Cook needs to have a brilliant game. I’m picking the Vikings to win.
Lions (1-3) @ Patriots (1-3) (1pm FOX)
The Lions have played a lot of close games this season. They are pretty banged up but so are the Patriots. It looks like Bailey Zappe is going to get the start again for the Patriots and he almost beat the Packers last week… I think I’m going to pick the Lions to lose another really close game.
Seahawks (2-2) @ Saints (1-3) (1pm FOX)
The Saints need to bounce back in the worst way. And when I say the Saints I mostly mean Alvin Kamara. I’m picking the Saints to win this game.
Dolphins (3-1) @ NY Jets (2-2) (1pm CBS)
The Dolphins will be without Tua this week so Teddy Bridgewater will get the start. I’d like to see the Jets win this game but I’m going to pick the Dolphins for the W.
Falcons (2-2) @ Buccaneers (2-2) (1pm FOX)
I’m tired of picking the Bucs and having them lose. I’m going to do it again with hopes of a different outcome this time. I’m picking the Bucs to win this game.
Titans (2-2) @ Commanders (1-3) (1pm CBS)
I’m picking the Titans to win the game. My opponent has McLaurin on his team so I hope he doesn’t catch a pass in this loss. I’m not bitter, my opponent has 3 of my players from last season, I have zero. I loved my team last year. This year, not so much. Anyway…
49ers (2-2) @ Panthers (1-3) (4:05pm CBS)
The Panthers look rough. I’m picking the 49ers to win this game.
Eagles (4-0) @ Cardinals (2-2) (4:25pm FOX)
Another angry birds game. I’ll be rooting for and hoping for a Cards win, but I’m picking the Eagles to actually win because I don’t like it when I don’t do well on picks.
Cowboys (3-1) @ Rams (2-2) (4:25pm FOX)
My opponent has Cooper Kupp so I hope the Cowboys defense plays double coverage on #10 the entire game. That will free up my tight end Tyler Higbee to catch all the passes. Also, I’m picking the Cowboys to win this game, though I’d be quite happy if they lost.
Bengals (2-2) @ Ravens (2-2) (8:20pm NBC)
I’m picking the Ravens to win this game. I think it’ll be a shoot out but I think that the Ravens will come out on top.
Monday, October 10th
Raiders (1-3) @ Chiefs (3-1) (8:15pm ESPN/ABC)
My opponent has Patrick Mahomes. Somehow I think this week is going to end badly again for me in fantasy … I’m picking the Chiefs to win.
GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
