Regular Season Week 9
Ugh. Week 8 was NOT my week. The Giants lost, I lost in fantasy, and I lost Derrick Henry for at least 6-10 weeks. It was a bad, bad, bad week for me. I guess I can kiss the whole winning thing goodbye. Week 9 isn’t looking any better for my fantasy team, as well as some teams in the NFL. The Raiders, for instance, are having a really trying season. Earlier this week they released WR Henry Ruggs after he was arrested for drunk driving, causing an accident, and killing a woman and her dog. Ruggs had his corvette up to 156mph before hitting a Rav4 at 121mph. His blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit. The Raiders organization has gone above and beyond with having a shuttle service for their people so that they don’t have any reason to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. The NFL also has a service that does virtually the same thing for a fee but, when someone uses that service, they get a credit for doing so, which wipes out the initial fee. This is such a sad, preventable, inexcusable, situation.
In other news, COVID-19 is making a comeback in the NFL too. Most notably Aaron Rodger (unvaccinated), Noah Fant (vaccinated), and Saquon Barkley (vaccinated) all tested positive earlier this week. Fant and Barkley could potentially fall off the list if they have two negative tests back to back 24 hrs apart. Rodgers will be out for at least one game, and there is a possibility of fines or suspension because he wasn’t honest about his vaccination status nor did he follow the protocols for being unvaccinated, by not wearing a mask in public or on the sidelines in practices or games. I have lost all respect for Rodgers, not for being unvaccinated, but because he thought he was above the rules and regulations, putting so many others in jeopardy of getting sick.
OBJ is also in some hot water because of a video his father put up on social media of Baker Mayfield not targeting his son while he was open and would have caught the ball. OBJ was not on the injury report this week but has been held out of practice the last two days, and sent home. It’s very likely OBJ will be cut from the team and become a free agent.
Lastly, I went 8-7 on my picks and am now 6-2 in fantasy.
Here’s the recap of week 8. In all honesty I didn’t watch most of these games because I was so frustrated with my fantasy team, therefore I was in the kitchen baking all day Sunday.
Packers @ Cardinals 24-21
The Packers, who were without their 3 top WRs because of being on the COVID-19 list, beat the undefeated Cardinals. Kyler Murray had his worst game of the season, injuring his foot in the game and DeAndre Hopkins also re-injured his quad but put himself back in the game, injuring himself more. So I got this pick wrong and now my starting quarterback is injured. Cool.
Panthers @ Falcons 19-13
I don’t think I’ve gotten a Carolina pick correct yet this season. When I think they’re good, they’re bad, and vice versa. Fun fact: It was Panther’s kicker Zane Gonzalez who scored the most points in this game.
Dolphins @ Bills 11-26
I had started both Emmanual Sanders and Zack Moss from the Bills because I thought, easy points, they’re playing the Dolphins. Sanders got me a total of 0 points. Awesome. I’m glad the Bills got the win because I atleast got the pick correct, but this game was basically a gut punch to me.
49ers @ Bears 33-22
I got this pick correct too. I can almost always count on the Bears to lose. Even though he lost, Justin Fields had a better day with only one interception and one touchdown, while Jimmy G didn’t have any touchdowns or interceptions.
Steelers @ Browns 15-10
Ugh. Salt. Open wound. The first game back for Nick Chubb and he only had 7 points! Son of a monkey’s uncle. Annnnd the stupid Steelers won, and I started the Browns defense. UGH! No wonder I lost in fantasy.
Eagles @ Lions 44-6
It gets worse. I picked the Lions to win too. I really hope no one read this report last week and picked the same picks I did. If you did, I’m so SORRY! I’m also sorry for Lions fans everywhere.
Titans @ Colts 34-31 OT
Welp, the Titans did win this game even though they lost Derrick Henry (maybe for the rest of the season) due to a broken bone in his foot. Henry only had 6 points for my fantasy team. Somehow I can reason it away better knowing he was playing with a broken foot. Carson Wentz was the most valuable player for the Titans because he threw a pick six in the fourth quarter, which helped to send the game to overtime where the Titans kicked a field goal to win the game.
Bengals @ Jets 31-34
No one got this pick correct. I still really can’t believe the Jets won. I have no idea what happened to the Bengals. The Jets had to start their back up quarterback, Mike White because of the injured Zach Wilson. The Jets had nothing going for them. It’s like the Bengals played down to the Jets level and that’s why they lost the game.
Rams @ Texans 38-22
Cooper Kupp is my fantasy team right now. Kupp had more points than all of my running backs combined. Not a good stat for my RBs. Rams coach Sean McVay decided to take out Matt Stafford in the 4th quarter because they were winning 38-0. Then the Texans scored 22 points in the 4th. Ooofffff. Talk about garbage time scores.
Patriots @ Chargers 27-24
Justin Herbert’s kryptonite is the New England Patriots. Herbert had two interceptions, one was a pick six. The Patriots have finally started to click even though wide receiver Jakobi Meyers still hasn't caught a touchdown pass yet. Damnit!
Jaguars @ Seahawks 7-31
Geno Smith has defied expectation as a backup QB and has brought the Seahawks to a win, finally. It helps that they played the Jags. The Seahawks fans are happy, but still can’t wait to get Russel Wilson back.
Washington @ Broncos 10-17
This game wasn’t very exciting and I don’t have much to say about it, except I’m glad that the Football Team lost.
Buccaneers @ Saints 27-36
The Saints may have won this game but it was at the expense of losing their starting quarterback Jameis Winston. I was actually pretty surprised the Saints pulled off the win regardless of who was under center. I was also frustrated that the Bucs, mainly Fournette, didn’t do as well as I expected and needed.
Cowboys @ Vikings 20-16
Dalton Schultz did not perform well in fantasy for me, but by this point I knew that a win wasn’t possible so I didn’t really care. I went to bed early after a long day of baking.
NY Giants @ Chiefs 17-20
The game wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and the Giants gave me hopes of a win, only to have it crash down at the end, in true Giants fashion. The Mannings were once again the saving grace for Monday Night Football. The guests this week were Jon Stewart, Micheal Strahan, Josh Allen, and Micheal Irvin. I learned that Stewart is a lifelong Giants fan and we share the same views; like, “why would we score a touchdown when Danny Jones can just throw it out of the back of the endzone.” Strahan has similar feelings and it was nice to commiserate with these famous people. In the end, the Giants had another heartbreaking loss, and I went to bed sad because I actually thought they could win.
WEEK 9
Thursday, November 4th
Jets (2-5) @ Colts (3-5) (8:20pm FOX/NFL)
Neither team is doing well this season and this game has no fantasy football implications for me so, is there really any reason to even watch it? Mike White is starting for the Jets again this week and he took the Jets to their second win of the season last week. Can he do it again? I don’t think so. I’m picking the Colts to win this game.
Sunday, November 7th DON’T FORGET DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!!!!
Browns (4-4) @ Bengals (5-3) (1pm CBS)
I’ve all but given up on the Browns this season. I benched OBJ weeks ago and now it looks like he’s already played his last game with Cleveland. I’ve also benched Cleveland’s defense even though I really need them to shut down both my opponent’s QB and WR, Joe Burrow and Joe Mixon. I also really need Nick Chubb to play like the Chubb of the beginning of the season and pick apart the Bengals defense, yup my opponent is starting them too. One can hope right? I’m picking the Bengals to win this game, and I really hope I’m wrong
Broncos (4-4) @ Cowboys (6-1) (1pm FOX)
The Broncos traded Von Miller to the Rams and I am starting the Cowboys defense, therefore I am picking the Cowboys to win this game.
Texans (1-7) @ Dolphins (1-7) (1pm FOX)
The Texans are getting Tyrod Taylor back at quarterback for this game. But I think I’m still going to have to pick the Dolphins for the win. Of course my opponent is starting Jaylon Waddle, WR for the Dolphins. Why is it that my opponent has such favorable matchups this week?!
Falcons (3-4) @ Saints (5-2) (1pm FOX)
The Saints will quite possibly have a quarterback by committee in Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian now that their starter is out for the rest of the season. Star WR Michael Thomas is also out for the rest of the season for the Saints. On the other team, WR Calvin Ridley has taken a leave of absence and may not return to the Falcons. With all that said, I am picking the Saints to win this game.
Raiders (5-2) @ NY Giants (2-6) (1pm CBS)
The Raiders will be without Ruggs so hopefully Derek Carr targets Darren Waller a whole lot more. I have no expectation for the Giants to win this game. I will be rooting for them, of course, but I need Waller to have a stellar game with lots of points. I am picking the Raiders to win this game but I hope I’m wrong. Go GMEN!
Patriots (4-4) @ Panthers (4-4) (1pm CBS)
I know I’ve said this before but the Panthers are supposed to get CMC back. I really don’t care who wins as long as Jakobi Meyers actually gets a touchdown, or 3. He’s due! I’m picking the Panthers to win this game and I hope CMC does start and Panthers take their focus off my opponent’s WR DJ Moore. That’d be helpful.
Bills (5-2) @ Jaguars (1-6) (1pm CBS)
This should be a pretty easy game for the Bills to win. I mean they are playing the Jags. Dear Josh Allen, please pass the ball to Emanual Sanders at least 10 times as much as you did last week… and feed Zack Moss the ball! I. NEED. FANTASY. POINTS!!! Love, Shenoa. I’m picking the Bills for the win.
Vikings (3-4) @ Ravens (5-2) (1pm FOX)
I’m picking the Ravens to win this game and I don’t have much else to say about it.
Chargers (4-3) @ Eagles (3-5) (4:05pm CBS)
The Eagles have yet to win at home and the Chargers have won two away games. LA, let’s make it 3 away game wins. I’m picking the Chargers to bounce back and win this game.
Packers (7-1) @ Chiefs (4-4) (4:25pm FOX)
I don’t think the Packers can win without Aaron Rodgers. I’m picking the Chiefs to win this game as long as the Chiefs shut down the Packers run game and the Packers shut down Tyreek Hill. (My opponent has Hill and Aaron Jones. Ugh.)
Cardinals (7-1) @ 49ers (3-4) (4:25pm FOX)
There is a chance that my starting quarterback doesn’t play as he has been out of practice all week with a sprained left ankle. If Murray can’t go it’ll be back up Colt McCoy under center. Regardless I am still picking the Cards to win this game.
Titans (6-2) @ Rams (7-1) (8:20pm NBC)
I don’t think the Titans have any chance to beat the Rams without Derrick Henry. I’m picking the Rams to win this game and I need Cooper Kupp to continue doing what he does best, catch passes and score touchdowns. Kupp and Matt Stafford need to be best friends in this game, no passes to Tyler Higbee or handoffs to Darrell Henderson, because, fantasy.
Monday, November 8th
Bears (3-5) @ Steelers (4-3) (8:15pm ESPN)
The Manning’s have the night off so this game will be even more painful to watch without them. I’d like to see the Bears beat the Steelers but I know that isn’t likely. Begrudgingly, I’m picking the Steelers to win.
BYE WEEK: Lions, Seahawks, Buccaneers, The Football Team
GO GMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
