Regular Season Week 13

We’ve made it to December! 2020 is almost over! Week 12 was the longest week in NFL history, starting at 12:30pm on Thanksgiving and ending just after 6pm Wednesday evening. Moving forward, for the rest of the season, the NFL has decided that there will be no in person meetings on Mondays and Tuesdays. This will hopefully cut down on the spread of COVID-19 throughout the NFL. It was also decided that there will no longer be a travel limit of 62 persons for games, a team can even bring their practice squad.  Also there will not be an in person Pro Bowl this year. Lastly, the Giants lead their division!

I went 10-6 in my picks and lost in fantasy. Fantasy playoffs start this week, I made it, but fully expect to be knocked out in the first round.

Here’s the recap of week 12.

Texans @ Lions 41-25

This game was not close and the Lions didn’t win. Sometimes I get picks way wrong. Although we had the game on, cooking our first Thanksgiving dinner together took the majority of our attention. It was weird not traveling to see our families, but was much safer to have our own little Thanksgiving together, just the two of us. Also, we learned that Eric makes a kick ass gravy, spatchcocking a turkey cuts the cook time down exponentially, and I make the best dinner rolls ever. Back to the game. The game was terrible, also maybe the Texans should’ve made a coaching change much sooner this season. Speaking of coaching, Matt Patrica was relieved of his coaching job after Detroit's Thanksgiving loss. In other, other news, one of the other reasons I lost in fantasy was because my opponent had Will Fuller, who has been suspended 6 games for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. I think that Fuller’s points should be taken away, and then I would have beat this opponent earlier in the season, just not this week. My team was horrible. Thanks Gurley.

Washington @ Cowboys 41-16

The cooking wasn’t completed for the start of this game, not that we missed much.  This game was even less riveting than the early one. I had started J.D. McKissic, so of course it was Antonio Gibson, the other running back, that ran for three touchdowns. McKissic had 1 attempt for 6 yards… Cool. I like losing.

Raiders @ Falcons 6-43

Oh look! Another pick I got wrong. But would you have guessed that the Raiders would have lost to the Falcons without Gurley? Yeah, me either. The Falcons look like a completely different team after letting go of their head coach, just like the Texans.

Chargers @ Bills 17-27

The Bills lead for the entire game, which for Bills fans is kind of surprising. Not too surprising says Chargers fans. Justin Herbert was having a pretty decent game until a costly interception in the fourth quarter that led to a Bills field goal, sealing the win.

NY Giants @ Bengals 19-17

GMEN!!!!!!!!!! 3 WINS IN A ROW AND THE TOP OF THE NFC EAST!  At least for one week. Even though we got the W it came at a big cost. Danny Jones hurt his hamstring and had to leave the game. Colt McCoy stepped in, and didn’t turn the ball over. When the Bengals scored a touchdown with 2:33 left in the game I thought the Giants had blown another “easy” win. The Giants defense saved the day yet again by sacking Brandon Allen, causing him to fumble, and recovering the ball with 57 seconds to go in the game, giving the Giants the win! Phew.

Titans @ Colts 45-26

The Colts did not have a good day and Derrick Henry once again carried the Tennessee Titans to the top of the AFC South. This was Henry’s third consecutive 100-yard game. That guy’s a beast. It helped that the Colts defense was down three key starters and Philip Rivers didn’t have a stellar game either.

Panthers @ Vikings 27-28

The Vikings just squeaked out a win over the Panthers. Chad Beebe, who had a fumble earlier in the game, caught a 10-yard touchdown pass with 46 seconds left shortly after he muffed a punt that let Carolina pad its lead. Thankfully, for Vikings fans, Joey Slye missed a 54 yard field go as time expired to give the Vikings the win.

Cardinals @ Patriots 17-20

The Patriots were able to contain Kyler Murry, and stop the run, ultimately beating the Cardinals.  Yeah, I got this pick wrong too. The Cardinals led this game until the 3rd quarter where the Patriots took the lead. The Cardinals tied it up in the fourth but it was a 50-yard field goal from Nick Folk as time expired to give the Patriots the W.

Dolphins @ Jets 20-3

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw two touchdowns for the Dolphins, against one of his many former teams. The Jets fall to 0-11. I’m glad my dad didn’t raise me as a Jets fan.

Browns  @ Jaguars 27-25

Guys, the Browns are 8-3. The Cleveland Browns. 8-3. Let that sink in. They might even make the playoffs. The Jags, even though they are 1-10, were very tenacious. The Browns barely survived. Baker Mayfield and Jarvis Landry finally started clicking and Nick Chubb covered the ground game. Browns chief of staff Callie Brownson became the first woman to coach an NFL position group in a regular season game as she filled in for tight ends coach Drew Pezing. Woot!

Saints @ Broncos 31-3

This game might have come with the biggest NFL news of the week. All of the Broncos quarterbacks were in quarantine because one of them had tested positive and they were all in close proximity to one another without masks. So, the Broncos, who were quarterback-less for the game, promoted Kendall Hinton, a practice squad wide receiver, 2 hours before kickoff. Hinton, a former Wake Forest quarterback, went 1-for-9 for 13 yards, with a sack, two interceptions, and a passer rating of zero. Needless to say, the Broncos didn’t have a good game, and to make matters worse, Philip Lindsay went out of the game with a knee injury and didn’t return.

49ers @ Rams 23-20

The 49ers snapped a three game losing streak when Robbie Gould made a 42-yard field goal as time expired. Got this pick wrong too!

Chiefs @ Buccaneers 27-24

The Chiefs got out to a big lead in the first quarter with the Patrick Mahomes / Tyreek Hill show. Hill had 203 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter alone. He finished the day with 13 catches and 269 yards. Patrick Mahomes threw for 462 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tom Brady, on the other hand, threw for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns but had 2 second half interceptions. It was great, especially seeing Brady lose and the Chiefs come out on top.

Bears @ Packers 25-41

Aaron Rodgers had 4 touchdown passes to Mitchell Trubisky’s 3. Mitch also had 3 costly turnovers, which the Packers capitalized on.  It’s safe to say that the Packers throttled the Bears in this division rivalry game. It was pretty ugly to watch, and I picked the Packers to win this game.

Seahawks @ Eagles 23-17

I like watching Tom Brady lose almost as much as I like watching the Eagles lose. It was a good week for that. The Seahawks continue to struggle on defense but their offense has so many weapons it didn’t really matter. DK Metcalf made the Eagles really regret passing him up when they could have drafted him, but he fell to the Seahawks. Chris Carson also returned to the game after being out for the better part of the season. The Seahawks defense's best help came from the Eagles offense, who didn’t have a first down until under five minutes left in the first half. It was just one of those games.

Ravens @ Steelers 14-19

This game had been moved and rescheduled 3 times. It finally landed at 3:40pm on Wednesday afternoon. You see, NBC has covered the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center for decades. Wednesday night was the 88th lighting, and NBC was not going to give up that air time to anything, even the unbeaten Steelers, that are clearly not getting any love from anyone but their fans. The Ravens had 23 players test positive, who couldn’t be a part of the game. RG3 was the Ravens quarterback and he was throwing passes to Dez Bryan. It was like going back in time. The game was ugly, and sloppy, with colorful commentary from one of my favorite (sarcastic font) sports casters, who had to issue an apology after the game. The Steelers maintained their perfect season but shouldn’t feel good about the way they played. Everyone looked like garbage.

WEEK 13

Sunday, December 6th

Saints (9-2) @ Falcons (4-7)  (1pm FOX)

Falcons are 4-2 under interim head coach Raheem Morris and this is a divisional game. The Saints have won 8 in a row, the last two without Brees. New Orleans has one of the top defenses in the league. I don’t think the Falcons are going to win this game. I just hope that Gurley touches the ball a lot. I’m picking the Saints for the win.

Lions (4-7) @ Bears  (5-6) (1pm FOX)

Will the Lions do better without Matt Patricia coaching? I don’t think they could do much worse. The Bears are also coming off of a humiliating loss, in fact, they’ve lost 5 in a row. Both teams need to win, badly. Against better judgment I’m picking the Bears to win this game, though a Lions win wouldn’t surprise me.

Browns (8-3) @ Titans (8-2) (1pm CBS)

I like the Browns, I have a couple of their players on my fantasy team. I do not expect the Browns to win this game, but I do expect Nick Chubb to go off, I mean, I need him to. I’m picking the Titans to win, Derrick Henry trumps Chubb.

Bengals (2-8-1) @ Dolphins (7-4) (1pm CBS)

The Joe Burrow-less Bengals are expected to lose the rest of their games this season. It would be very shocking if they didn’t, unless they play the Jets. I’m picking the Dolphins to win this game, I think Tua is going to be back too.

Jaguars (1-10) @ Vikings (5-6) (1pm CBS)

I’m going to have to go with the Vikings to win this game. The Jags have lost 10 in a row. Let’s make it 11 after this game.

Raiders (6-5) @ Jets (0-11) (1pm FOX)

The Raiders haven’t beat the Jets since 1996. The Jets haven’t won a game since last season. They beat the Raiders 34-3 last year. The Raiders were embarrassed last week and should bounce back this week. But, this is pretty much the Jets Super Bowl, and they are going to fight. I’m going to pick the Raiders to get the win, but again, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was wrong.

Colts (7-4) @ Texans (4-7) (1pm CBS)

I thought that the Texans might actually have a chance at beating the Colts this week, but then I remembered that cornerback Bradley Roby and receiver Will Fuller were suspended for performance-enhancing drugs. I’m picking the Colts for the win.

Rams (7-4) @ Cardinals (6-5)  (4:05pm FOX)

The Cardinals are sharing their stadium and practice facility with the 49ers. I guess it’s safe to say that the 49ers won't be practicing on the field on Sunday. I think that the Rams are going to win this game. All they have to do is contain Kyler Murry, and I think they can do that. I’m picking the Rams for the win.

NY Giants (4-7) @ Seahawks (8-3) (4:05pm FOX)

Danny Jones is doubtful to play this game, so Colt McCoy will probably get the start. The Giants defense is good but Seattle’s offense is deep with many weapons. I don’t see the Giants winning this game. Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to see them win, and I’ll be rooting for them, but I’m not delusional. I think our win streak comes to an end against the Seahawks. My only hope is that every team in the NFC East loses this week so that the Giants can maintain first place. I’m picking the Seahawks for the win, I hope I’m wrong. Go GMEN!!!

Eagles (3-7-1) @ Packers (8-3) (4:25pm CBS)

I’m picking the Packers to win this game for many reasons. 1, they’re the better team. 2, I don’t like the Eagles. 3, The Eagles are in the NFC East and need to lose. 4, Aaron Rodgers is WAY better than Carson Wentz.

Patriots (5-6) @ Chargers (3-8) (4:25pm CBS)

The Chargers are the best worst team in the NFL right now. I’m picking the Patriots to win this game, but I think it’ll be close.

Broncos (4-7) @ Chiefs (10-1) (8:20pm NBC)

I’m picking the Chiefs to win this game, though the Broncos should have a quarterback this week. Not that it’ll matter too much, they are going up against Patrick Mahomes.

Monday, December 7th

Washington (4-7) @ Steelers (11-0) (5pm FOX)

2 games on Monday!

I’m picking the Steelers to win this game, even though they have a short week, and their last game was UGLY. I like Alex Smith but I can’t have the Football Team win this week; you know, NFC East…

Bills (8-3) @ 49ers (5-6) (8:15pm ESPN/CBS)

The 49ers can’t practice or play at their facility for the next 3 weeks because of COVID-19 restrictions in their county. They have moved to Phoenix for the time being and will practice and play “home games” there. Their first “home game” is against the Bills.

The last time the Bills were on this field they witnessed the “Hail Murry” and a devastating loss. Hopefully they can put that in the past as well as their prime time record. The Bills are 6-23 in primetime games since 2000 and have lost 9 straight Monday night games, their last Monday night win was October of 1999. I’m going against the odds and picking the Bills to win this game. I’m sorry Bills fans, if you think I just jinxed you!

Tuesday, December 8th

Cowboys (3-8) @ Ravens (6-5) (8:05pm FOX/NFLN)

Yes, we have a Tuesday game this week. Lamar Jackson is still on the COVID-19 list and may not play this game. Dez Bryant will be playing against his former team, so that should be fun to watch. I’m picking the Ravens to win because, well, they really need a win, and the aforementioned NFC East.

BYE

Buccaneers, Panthers

GO GMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the edit Eric!
