Regular Season Week 3
Week two is in the books! The Chiefs are winless, the Packers look like playoff royalty, and the Colts haven’t punted once. Yes, really. What in the world?!?! Speaking of the Colts, they are in a group of undefeated teams this season. The Packers, Bills, Rams, Chargers, Cardinals, 49ers, Eagles, Bengals, and Buccaneers are also undefeated so far. On the other side of the coin, there is a group of teams that have not won a game this season. I mentioned the Chiefs before and I’ll do it again. The Chiefs, Dolphins, Browns, Titans, Giants, Panthers, Saints, and Texans have yet to win a game this season. Not to harp on the Chiefs but they are playing the Giants in week 3 so I’m sure they’ll get back on track. Cool. You’re welcome. Anyway, I guess it’s a good thing that I am playing in two fantasy leagues, better chances at winning, because we all know that’s not in the NY Giants future. I won in one league and lost in the other fantasy league this week. CMC Ya Next Season 1-1, Won’t You Be My Nabers 2-0. Also, I went 11-5 in my picks. Hooray!
Let’s jump into the recap!
Commanders @ Packers 18-27
Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and 2 TDs, and TE Tucker Kraft turned into a fantasy fever dream with 124 yards. Also, F Tucker Kraft. His stupid points are what handed me my first loss in fantasy this season. I know this game was only Thursday, but the guy finished with 24 points after a projected 9. Lame. The Commanders waited until the fourth quarter to remember they were allowed to score points. Washington’s offense was like a slow loading webpage, by the time it showed up, nobody cared anymore. Thank you Green Bay for handing Washington their first loss of the season.
Rams @ Titans 33-19
Matthew Stafford threw for 298 yards and 2 TDs, and WR Davante Adams finally showed up with 106 receiving yards and a touchdown. Woot! That helped me in fantasy but it wasn’t enough for the win. The Titans had a halftime lead and then couldn’t do anything in the second half. Titans Cameron Ward looked like a rookie QB in a haunted house. Rams fans, rejoice. Titans fans, grab a beverage, it’s going to be a long season.
Jaguars @ Bengals 27-31
I made the wrong quarterback start in fantasy. I started Joe Burrow and he went down after only 7 points. Backup QB Jake Browning stepped in, threw three picks, and still won the game. How? Because the Jags forgot how tackling works. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson hit a 58-yarder like it was a chip shot to seal the win. Jacksonville is now 1-12 in their last 13 road games. That’s not a stat, that’s a cry for help.
Browns @ Ravens 17-41
QB Joe Flacco returned to Baltimore and got absolutely wrecked. Ah yes, you may have forgotten that Flacco led the Ravens to a Super Bowl win back in 2013. Lamar Jackson threw 4 touchdown passes and the Baltimore defense made the Browns want their mommy. Cleveland’s offense was sad and scored their second touchdown in garbage time. If you started a Browns player in fantasy, I’m sending you a casserole and a hug.
Bills @ Jets 30-10
Josh Allen wrecked his face and the Jets defense. Seriously though, Allen's nose is BROKEN. He’s going to start to look like Owen Wilson. The Bills handled the Jets early so we got to see some QB action from Mitch Trubisky after Allen left the game. James Cook ran for 132 yards and 2 TDs. Cook’s points on the day in fantasy furthered my fantasy loss. The Jets offense was so bad Tyrod Taylor threw for just 56 yards after Justin Fields left the game with an injury. . Jets WR Garrett Wilson tried to make it look respectable. He failed. I started Wilson in fantasy. Sigh. Hey, Jets fans, blink twice if you need help.
Patriots @ Dolphins 33-27
Patriots QB Drake Maye outplayed Dolphins QB Tua Tungaviola. RB Rhamondre Stevenson caught everything in sight and ran all over the Dolphins. Patriots rookie kicker Andy Borregales missed two PATs but nailed a 53-yarder like it was a warm-up swing. WR Tyreek Hill had 109 yards, but Miami’s defense was in full “bend and break” mode. Dolphins fans deserved better. But do they really?
49ers @ Saints 26-21
The 49ers didn’t have their starting QB Brock Purdy, or starting TE George Kittle, but it didn’t seem to be a problem. Mac Jones threw 3 TDs, CMC did his thing, and the Saints couldn’t stop a screen pass if their lives depended on it. Saints QB Spencer Rattler matched Jones with 3 TDs, but the 49ers defense made the final stop. New Orleans had a chance late but dropped the ball. Literally.
NY Giants @ Cowboys 37-40 OT
I am not okay. I am STILL so frustrated. I work with a couple of Giants fans and we all agree I could be a better defensive coordinator. But I digress. Russell Wilson threw for 450 yards and we still lost. We had a lead. We had momentum. We had hope. And then for reasons not known to me, our defense decided to play soft and deep and allow THE BEST KICKER IN THE LEAGUE a 64 yard field goal to send the game into overtime. I can’t. As sooooooon as he made that kick I knew the game was over. Overtime didn’t matter. We should have STOPPED THEM IN REGULATION. F*%K. I am not ok. Malik Nabers had an incredible game with 167 yards and 2 TDs and we lost due to weak, spineless play calling. I said it. I didn’t watch the game winning kick in overtime. There was no need. I went outside and started mowing the lawn. Stupid Giants. Stupid heartbreak. Stupid false hope. Stupid play calling. STUPID STUPID STUPID. The defense gave up a game-winning drive in OT like it was a group project they forgot to do. At least I got the pick correct. … Still mad.
Bears @ Lions 21-52
The Lions remembered they’re supposed to score points! Jared Goff threw four touchdowns, and the Bears defense looked like they were auditioning for a Disney Channel original. Bears QB Caleb Williams started hot, then his defense got buried under a tsunami of Detroit touchdowns. If you started the Bears D in fantasy… I’m perplexed and sorry.
Seahawks @ Steelers 31-17
I’m not gonna lie, it was nice to see the Steelers, ahem, Aaron Rodgers, lose. Seattle RB Kenneth Walker III ran wild, and the Seahawks defense scored when George Holani recovered the kickoff in the endzone for a touchdown. Aaron Rodgers looked like he aged 10 years in one game. Seattle dominated every phase, and the Steelers fans were booing by the third quarter. I’m not mad about it, even though I got the pick wrong.
Broncos @ Colts 28-29
Colts QB Daniel Jones is officially the plot twist of the season. The Colts haven’t punted in two weeks. Jonathan Taylor ran for 165 yards, and Danny Dimes still hasn’t thrown an interception. Giants fans are still not ok. The Broncos defense tried, but the Colts offense kept handing them existential dread and Denver was shut out in the final quarter of the game.
Panthers @ Cardinals 22-27
On paper, the Panthers had the better game. Bryce Young threw for 328 yards with 3 touchdowns and one interception. Arizona QB Kyler Murray only had 220 passing yards, with one touchdown and one interception. But, alas, the Panthers were just playing catch up the whole game and even though they shut out the Cards in the fourth quarter it wasn’t enough to win the game. Sorry Panthers fans.
Eagles @ Chiefs 20-17
Jalen Hurts didn’t throw a TD but ran for two and the Eagles defense made Mahomes really work for it. TE Travis Kelce ran the wrong route again, and the Chiefs offense is officially in “figure it out” mode. (Don’t worry KC fans, you get the Giants next week. You’re welcome.) Philly’s win was gritty, ugly, and exactly how they like it. I still don’t like them, but I respect the hustle.
Falcons @ Vikings 22-6
The Falcons defense showed up and shut down Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy, hurting him in the process. McCarthy went out with an ankle injury. The Vikings offense was flatter than my fantasy hopes. Justin Jefferson who? I think he’s in witness protection. Atlanta’s pass rush was relentless, and RB Bijan Robinson finally looked like a first-round pick. Minnesota fans, I’m sorry. That was rough. Like, “delete your fantasy app” rough.
Buccaneers @ Texans 20-19
Bucs QB Baker Mayfield didn’t light it up, but he didn’t need to. The defense held strong and the Texans missed their chance late. It was ugly, it was close, and it was a win. Sometimes that’s all you need. Just ask my fantasy team, which is currently held together by duct tape and positive vibes.
Chargers @ Raiders 20-9
Chargers QB Justin Herbert threw for 242 yards and 2 TDs, while the defense forced three picks from Raiders QB Geno Smith. Chargers WR Quentin Johnston’s 60-yard TD was the dagger for Las Vegas. The Raiders didn’t score a single touchdown. That’s not football—that’s performance art. And not the good kind.
WEEK 3
Thursday, September 18th
Dolphins (0-2) @ Bills (2-0) (8:15pm PRIME VIDEO)
Week 3 starts out with another divisional matchup. Unfortunately I don't think this is going to be a close game. Fortunately my side piece team should get an easy win. Josh Allen is averaging 35.5 points per game, and Miami’s run game ranks 29th. This is not a matchup—it’s a mercy mission. I’m hoping that Tyreek Hill will have a good game, but Buffalo’s defense is built to bully. Mike McDaniel’s seat is heating up like a tailgate grill. How far have the Dolphins fallen since seeing them on Hard Knocks? I’m obviously rooting for and picking the Bills to win this game. GO BILLS!
Sunday, September 21st
Bengals (2-0) @ Vikings (1-1) (1pm CBS)
Both teams will be without their starting quarterback. Carson Wentz will get the start for the Vikings and Jake Browning will get the start for the Bengals. I’m pretty sure that the Vikings are hitting their panic button right now. I am picking the Bengals for the win.
Steelers (1-1) @ Patriots (1-1) (1pm CBS)
I don’t feel great about either of these teams. The Steelers will probably win this game but I’m not going to pick them. I am picking the Patriots to win this game.
Colts (2-0) @ Titans (0-2) (1pm CBS)
The Titans have lost 8 straight games dating back to last December. Cam Ward is still searching for his first win as the Titans rookie QB but I don’t think it’s going to come this week. The Colts RB Jonathan Taylor leads the league in rushing yards after contact, and the Titans defense has already surrendered 300+ rushing yards this season. I’m picking the Colts to win this game.
Texans (0-2) @ Jaguars (1-1) (1pm CBS)
I’m surprised that the Texans haven’t won yet this season and therefore I am picking them to win on the road against the Jags.
Falcons (1-1) @ Panthers (0-2) (1pm CBS)
This is a divisional game. I am pretty sure the Falcons are going to win it and that’s who I am going to pick to win. Sorry Panthers fans.
Rams (2-0) @ Eagles (2-0) (1pm FOX)
I am hoping this game is high scoring. I am picking the Eagles to win but I need Kyren Williams, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley to have high scoring games. I also need Hurts to not throw Devonta Smith, as my opponent has him in fantasy. That opponent is my Mom. I’m not sure what to do with Davante Adams. I am starting him in one league and in my other league my Mom is starting him. Fantasy implications, ya know. How do you root for your people in this circumstance?
NY Jets (0-2) @ Buccaneers (2-0) (1pm FOX)
Yeah, with Justin Fields possibly out for the Jets I am going to have to pick the Bucs to win this game. Go Baker Mayfield! You were my backup QB but now with Burrows out, you are my QB 1!
Raiders (1-1) @ Commanders (1-1) (1pm FOX)
I think the Commanders will bounce back this week even if they don’t have their starting quarterback under center. Jayden Daniels is dealing with a knee sprain and hasn’t practiced this week. The Commanders are expected to start Marcus Mariota. I’m picking Washington for the win, but I hope I’m wrong!
Packers (2-0) @ Browns (0-2) (1pm FOX)
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Browns put up a fight but I don’t think they’ll win the game. I’m picking the Packers to win this game, but I hope the Browns are playing a stingy defense because my other opponent (not my mom) in fantasy has a lot of Packer players.
Broncos (1-1) @ Chargers (2-0) (4:05pm CBS)
Justin Herbert is playing well right now. I hope he keeps up the pace and finds Keenan Allen too. I’m picking the Chargers to win this game.
Saints (0-2) @ Seahawks (1-1) (4:05pm CBS)
The Seahawks will win this game at home. The 12th man will help.
Cardinals (2-0) @ 49ers (2-0) (4:25pm FOX)
Obviously I am picking the 49ers to win this game. One of my fantasy team names is CMC Ya Next Year. Let’s go CMC!
Cowboys (1-1) @ Bears (0-2) (4:25pm FOX)
I’ll be rooting for the Bears and hoping for a win. I did ask AI what it thought about the game and it said this, “This one’s wild. Caleb Williams finally puts it together, and the Cowboys defense gets exposed. CeeDee Lamb and D.J. Moore both go off, but Chicago pulls the upset in a shootout. Fantasy managers rejoice. Cowboys fans spiral.”
I mean, I like this take. I don’t think it’ll come to fruition, but I like it. I am picking the Cowboys to win and will be happy if I’m wrong.
Chiefs (0-2) @ NY Giants (0-2) (8:20pm NBC)
Mahomes is 0-2 and mad. The Giants are 0-2 and sad. And bad. This is going to be ugly. I’m not looking forward to it. I’m not ready to talk about it. I’ll watch with my knitting needles and a beverage. If I drink enough, maybe I won’t remember this game at all? I’m picking the Chiefs to win this game.
Monday September 15th
Lions (1-1) @ Ravens (1-1) (8:15pm ABC, ESPN)
This should be a good, fun game to watch. I think the Ravens have the edge this time and I am picking Baltimore to win. I will, however, be rooting for the Lions though and hoping they pull off the upset, as long as Zay Flowers gets 40 points for me in fantasy.
GO G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
