The Shenoa Report

Super Bowl 56

HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!!!

Coverage has already started and the game kicks off at 6:30pm EST. You can watch the game on NBC, or on Telemundo in Spanish. The game will also be available on the NFL mobile app and the Yahoo! Sports mobile app, as well as on NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, and Peacock Premium.

Al Micheals and Cris Collinsworth will call the game on the NBC national broadcast. The National anthem will be sung by Mickey Guyton and the Halftime show will have an epic line up of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, with Sean Forbes and Warren Snipe.

Ticket prices for the game are stupid expensive, averaging $9,000.

Fans attending the game are required to show proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test that was taken within 48 hours, or a negative antigen test that was taken within 24 hours. The proof of vaccination requirement has been implemented for large outdoor events in Los Angeles County since October 2021.

But before I talk about the actual game let’s recap how we got there.

Conference Championship

Bengals @ Chiefs 27-24 OT

This game was insane. Both teams came to play, that was evident. The Bengals were down 18 points and had an epic comeback to be ahead by 3 late in the fourth quarter. But you can’t count out Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. They marched down the field with seconds to go in the game so that Harrison Butker could kick a 44-yard field goal to send the game into overtime. Once again the Chiefs were playing to advance in overtime. Bills fans everywhere must have thought, un-freakin-believable. The Chiefs won the coin toss and of course, wanted the ball. And just 13 seconds into overtime Patrick Mahomes threw an interception right to Vonn Bell and the Bengals took over. The rest is history. Evan McPherson kicked a 31-yard field goal in overtime to send the Bengals to the Super Bowl. I got the pick wrong, but I’m ok with it.

49ers @ Rams 17-20

This game started off a little slow with no score in the first quarter. But then it got going. Cooper Kupp was the first to score with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford halfway through the second quarter. Of course, the 49ers answered right back with a 44-yard Jimmy Garoppolo pass to none other than Deebo Samuel to tie the game. The 49ers went into halftime up by 3 after Robbie Gould kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired. The 49ers had the only score in the third quarter with a George Kittle touchdown. The fourth quarter was when it got really interesting. Cooper Kupp had his second touchdown of the game just after 7 plays and a little under 3 and a half minutes off the clock. The 49ers got the ball back taking time off the clock but were unable to score. With 9:55 remaining in the game and the Rams still trailing, backed up to their own 15-yard line, Matt Stafford threw an awful, ugly, dangerous pass that hit 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt right in the numbers. Tartt dropped the ball. If you were a 49ers fan you probably felt like you were going to throw up at that point. As a Rams fan, I breathed a sigh of relief. The Rams regrouped, marched down the field and kicked a field goal to tie the game. When the 49ers got the ball back it was Jimmy G that threw an interception to Travin Howard, who actually caught the ball, giving the possession back to the Rams. Matt Gay kicked the winning field goal to send the Rams to Super Bowl 56.

SUPER BOWL LVI

Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals

For the second consecutive year the “away” team will play at home in the Super Bowl. SoFi Stadium, in Inglewood, California, home of the LA Rams and LA Chargers, is where the big game will take place.

The Bengals have made 2 prior Super Bowl appearances, but they are one of the 12 teams to have never been crowned Super Bowl Champions. The Rams have only won one Super Bowl despite making it to the big game four times.

Both starting quarterbacks were number one picks in their draft class. Matthew Stafford has been in the league for thirteen seasons, though this is his first season with the Rams. Joe Burrow has only been in the league for two seasons, sitting out most of his first season due to a torn ACL.

In my opinion it was very improbable for the Bengals to make it to the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl after finishing the prior 2 seasons with a combined record of 6-25-1. Maybe Joe Burrow really is like a young Joe Montana, as has been said by Phil Simms? Today we will find out just how cool Joe is. Burrow also has the chance to get, for the first time ever, “The Triple Crown” as a quarterback. He has already won the Heismen trophy and the college national championship. The only thing left is the Super Bowl.

Matt Stafford and the LA Rams are ready to spoil Joe Cool’s chances. Stafford was the starting quarterback for the Lions for 12 seasons. We all know that the Lions are awful. I must admit, I didn’t think Stafford was as good as other people said he was, until he became a Ram. Now I fully believe that Stafford is great. I mean, when you have weapons like Cooper Kupp, OBJ, Robert Woods, and Van Jefferson it’s hard to be mediocre.

Honestly both teams deserve to win this game. Both teams have overcome adversity and played their hearts out. I’m excited because I’ll finally be able to wear my OBJ jersey for a Super Bowl, unfortunately I won’t be cheering on my team, the Giants, but I’m so happy for Odell Beckham Jr. Obviously, we now see it wasn’t him, it was the crappy teams he was playing for.

If you’ve followed the Shenoa Report this season you’ll also know that Cooper Kupp was the MVP of my fantasy football team, I also had OBJ and Sony Michel. With that said, I’m all in on the Rams. I’m picking them to win this game, but I won’t be completely sad if the Bengals win, as they also deserve it. I mean the last time the Bengals were even in the Super Bowl was 33 years ago. Ultimately, I just hope it’s a good game.

Thanks for the edit Eric!
