Regular Season Week 7
This week is being called BYEmageddon or BYEpocalypse by many fantasy team owners because there are 6 teams on their BYE: Bills, Cowboys, Vikings, Steelers, Chargers, and Jaguars. For instance, my bench players are as follows : Questionable- trending to out, Out, Out, Bye, Bye, Bye, Bye, Out. My opponent’s bench is worse: IR, Bye, IR, IR, Bye, Out, Doubtful, IR. Normally I’d feel awesome about my fantasy matchup but I’m playing my partner this week, and as competitive as I am it’s hard to root against the person I love the most in my life. Somehow I’ll manage, and in all honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he actually wins this week in fantasy football. Week 7 should be a doozie!
Anyway, I did much better on my picks this past week (9-5) and am back to winning in fantasy (5-1).
Here’s the recap of week 6.
Buccaneers @ Eagles 28-22
Leonard Fournette had a really good game with two touchdowns and 82 rushing yards, which helped start my fantasy week 6. Richard Sherman, who had just signed with the Bucs last week because their defense had been decimated, left early in the first quarter with a hamstring injury. Tom Brady was playing with an ouchy thumb and they still managed to pull off a win. It was also nice to see the Eagles lose.
Dolphins @ Jaguars 20-23
Tua Tagovailoa was back for the Dolphins but this is the eighth time the Jags have played in a London game, most in the NFL. They were definitely the “home” team and I should’ve picked them to win. I just knew they would do it. Jacksonville had to travel across the pond to get their first home win of the season.
Packers @ Bears 24-14
The best part of this game was when Aaron Rodgers ran into the endzone for a touchdown to take the lead over the Bears, yelling at the crowd, “I still own you! I still own you!” I left out the expletives. A-aron was feeling it for sure.
Bengals @ Lions 34-11
Last week Joe Burrow was sent to the hospital after taking a hit to the throat. He had to rest his voice all week and therefore silently killed the Lions. Burrow had 3 touchdown passes on the day and Detroit didn’t even score until the 4th quarter. I’m glad I’m not a Lions fan.
Texans @ Colts 3-31
Guys, the Texans are awful. It was like the Colts were playing an unranked college team. I mean, they made Carson Wentz look good, and that's pretty hard to do.
Rams @ NY Giants 38-11
I have no words. It was hard to watch. Instead of knitting or crocheting during the game, I now just leave the room and start baking. In this horrible, pathetic loss I baked sourdough bread, “Ted Lasso biscuits”, and chocolate/peanut butter half moon cookies. Join me next week when the Giants lose to see what tasty treat I’ve made.
Chiefs @ Washington 31-13
In Patrick Mahomes’ rookie season, the Chiefs were always down, sometimes/usually by a lot, and always seemed to be the comeback kids. This season, especially this game, seems to have the same tone. After two interceptions in the first half Mahomes finally got his groove back and stomped the Football Team leading three touchdown drives to win the game.
Vikings @ Panthers 34-28 OT
Christrian McCaffery was not back for this game, and instead went on IR. This, in part, is probably why I got this pick wrong. What was once thought of as a good defense, the Panthers couldn’t stop the Vikings from getting a touchdown to tie the game sending it into overtime, and they for sure couldn’t stop them from getting another touchdown to take the win. It was disappointing to watch, to say the least.
Chargers @ Ravens 6-34
The Ravens’ defense completely shut down Justin Herbert and the entire Chargers offense. Thankfully, Ray Lewis wasn’t on this week’s Inside the NFL to talk about how good the Ravens are this season.
Cardinals @ Browns 37-14
The Browns are just not the same without Nick Chubb in the line up. To make matters worse for Cleveland, Baker Mayfield re-injured his shoulder and Kareem Hunt had to be carted off to the locker room with a calf injury. The Browns are almost as decimated as the NY Giants. It was an easy game for the Cardinals to win, and J.J. Watt sure seems happy yet bewildered, not having experienced a winning season, well, ever.
Raiders @ Broncos 34-24
It was the Raiders, not Broncos, defense that stepped up. The Raiders D picked off Teddy Bridgewater three times while Derick Carr had no interceptions and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for me none of the touchdowns went to my tight end, Darren Waller.
Cowboys @ Patriots 35-29 OT
This game had a lot of fantasy implications for both me and my opponent. I was down going into this game but had Jacobi Myers on the Pats and the Cowboys defense so I felt pretty good. My opponent had Mac Jones, Ceedee Lamb, and Zeek Elliot. Amazingly enough Jones and Zeek didn’t pick up big points and with five minutes to go in the game I felt pretty good. But then, Lamb decided to show up big, getting a touchdown to send the game into overtime AND another touchdown in OT to win the game… I went from feeling good about my fantasy win to needing 41 points in the Bills/Titans game.
Seahawks @ Steelers 20-23 OT
The Seahawks were without Russell Wilson for the first time since he started with the team. Geno Smith has killed another quarterback’s consecutive game streak. He’s getting a reputation. First Eli Manning and now Russell. Ugh. I’m sure Geno’s a great guy, but I still cringe a little when I hear his name. Anyway, Smith was ok in Wilson’s place. He had some mistakes, one fumble that cost them the game but other than that… Being the late game I just couldn’t stay up any longer and missed overtime. I had picked the Steelers to win, but didn’t realize how close the game would actually be.
Bills @ Titans 31-34
I needed 41 points to win in fantasy and had Zack Moss, Emmanuel Sanders, and Derrick Henry. Moss didn’t really show up at all, but thankfully, Henry did! Henry had 3 touchdowns and on one of them he was clocked at running 21.8mph! He’s a beast and I love him. The Bills could’ve and should’ve won this game but Sean McDermott decided instead of kicking a field goal to force overtime, he would go for it on 4th and one with the goal line just 2 yards away. Josh Allen slipped, got stuffed (surprise face), and the Bills lost. It must be pretty frustrating being a Bills fan. I was upset because I got the pick wrong, but that’s about it. Oh, and I ended up winning by 14 points!
WEEK 7
Thursday, October 21st
Broncos (3-3) @ Browns (3-3) (8:20pm FOX/NFL)
Normally I wouldn’t hesitate to pick the Browns to win this game but Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt have already been ruled out, and most likely OBJ will not play as well. Jarvis Landry has just been activated off IR so it looks like he’ll have to suit up, and their backup quarterback, Case Keenum, will start for Cleveland. I have to play the Browns defense because my other defense has a bye this week sooo…. I hope their defense fares much better than their offense. Keenum will be without two of the starting linemen who usually protect their QB but are also out due to injury. The Broncos don’t have much going for them either. Their quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater is dealing with foot and quadriceps issues, and half of his targets are injured or out on IR. With all that being said, I’m still picking the Browns to win this game, I just don’t think they’ll drop three in a row.
Sunday, October 24th
Washington (2-4) @ Packers (5-1) (1pm FOX)
The Football Team’s offense is also pretty injury ridden. Their defense is supposed to be good, but their record would say otherwise, and they are playing the Green Bay Packers. I would be a fool if I didn’t pick the Packers to win this game, therefore, I’m picking GB for the W.
Chiefs (3-3) @ Titans (4-2) (1pm CBS)
My opponent has KC’s RB Darrel Williams and QB Patrick Mahomes but I have WR Mecole Hardman, so I hope all passes go to Mecole, obviously. I also have Derrick Henry so I should win this particular matchup. Last year, I wouldn’t have hesitated to pick KC for the win. This year, I’m a little hesitant, but I’m still going to pick the Chiefs to win this game.
Falcons (2-3) @ Dolphins (1-5) (1pm FOX)
I thought that if you played in London you automatically got a bye the following week. Nope! The Dolphins, who basically just got back from losing in London, will be facing the very well rested Falcons who played in London the week before. The Dolphins have yet to win at home while the Falcons have a 1-1 record on the road, not counting their “home” game in London. I’m picking the Falcons to win this game but won’t be at all surprised if I’m wrong.
Jets (1-4) @ Patriots (2-4) (1pm CBS)
I really think that the Patriots will win this game. Even though they’ve yet to win a game at home, I think this one will be the first. Despite their record they are playing good football and have had some heartbreaking, close losses. Also, they’ve already defeated the Jets this season and I think they’ll do it again. I’m picking the Patriots for the win.
Panthers (3-3) @ NY Giants (1-5) (1pm FOX)
The Giants are about to pick up Keanue Reeves, that’s a Replacements reference, because their team is so beat up. The list of players out is too long to list. But watch, against all odds, being that my opponent has Devontae Booker and Evan Engram they will each get a butt load of yards and have two touchdowns a piece, but the Giants will blow another win due to a false start. At least it won’t be the percussionist’s (Andrew Thomas) fault because he’s on IR. I’m picking the Panthers to win this game. Go Gmen! Ugh.
Bengals (4-2) @ Ravens (5-1) (1pm CBS)
I’d love to see the Bengals upset the Ravens but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m picking the Ravens to win but will be rooting for the Bengals.
Eagles (2-4) @ Raiders (4-2) (1pm FOX)
This game has fantasy implications on both my team and his team. I need Darren Waller to have a game more like his first game of the season. My partner has Henry Ruggs so I’m sure he’ll have a good game. I’m still mad about the NFL draft and the Eagles stealing Devonta Smith, which is amplified this week with him being on my opponent’s team. Also I hate the Eagles. Have I mentioned that? I’m picking the Raiders to win this game. Oh! And another thing, in our fantasy league I’ve got one guy that has offered twice now some laughable trades for Darren Waller, I’ve declined each time. I’m not dumb.
Lions (0-6) @ Rams (5-1) (4:05pm FOX)
This should be a fun game to watch because before the season the quarterbacks basically traded teams. The Lions now have Jared Goff and the Rams have Matthew Stafford. I’m sure Stafford doesn’t miss the Lions and Goff wishes he was back with the Rams. I’m picking the Rams to win regardless of Cooper Kupp having a good game, but I really need all the touchdown passes to go to Kupp. My opponent has the Rams kicker and that doesn’t make me too worried.
Texans (1-5) @ Cardinals (6-0) (4:25pm CBS)
I have no doubt in my mind that the Cardinals will win this game, I just hope they aren’t winning by so much that they pull my quarterback, Kylar Murry, out before the end of the game. I also need James Conner to have a good game for the Cards because he gets to start this week because of my bleak bench. I’m picking Arizona for the win.
Bears (3-3) @ Buccaneers (5-1) (4:25pm CBS)
I’m picking the Bucs to win this game and I hope that Leonard Fournette has another great game! I do need the Bears to score some points because my opponent has the Bucs defense, but we both know that’s not likely.
Colts (2-4) @ 49ers (2-3) (8:20pm NBC)
The Colts were thought to have a good defense. That’s kind of laughable now. Jimmy G is supposed to be back for the 49ers which is bad news for me as my opponent has Deebo Samuel and Jimmy loves to throw to Deebo. I’m picking the 49ers to win this game.
Monday, October 25th
Saints (3-2) @ Seahawks (2-4) (8:15pm ESPN)
The Saints are coming off their bye week and the Seahawks are without Russell Wilson. I think I have to take the Saints to win this game. Best of all, the Mannings are back so tune into ESPN2 to watch this game to be entertained!
BYE WEEK: Bills, Cowboys, Vikings, Steelers, Chargers, Jaguars
GO GMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the edit Eric!
