SUPER BOWL 52

I have put this off until now because I just can’t get excited about this Super Bowl. If you are not an Eagles fan or a Pats fan you are probably more excited about the commercials (“Westworld” Season Two Trailer), the halftime show (Justin Timberlake!!!!), or “This Is Us” which immediately follows the game, than the actual game.

On the other hand, I’m a little sad that another football season has come to an end, but as a Giants fan, a little relieved. This will be the last time we have football on Sunday until August.
Today (2/3) is the 10 year anniversary of Super Bowl 42, aka the best Super Bowl Ever, aka the helmet catch super bowl, aka the NY Football Giants ruining the Patriots perfect season. Sometimes it is good to reminisce.

Now let’s recap Championship Sunday to see who advanced to Minnesota for Super Bowl 52.  I went 1-1 on my picks.

Jaguars @ Patriots 20-24
Gronk got knocked out of the game early with a concussion.  The Jags played very well but they didn’t have the refs in their pockets like the other team, so they lost. Brady’s injured hand was a non-factor. It was a good game to watch, especially if you like watching refs celebrating with certain teams…  Sorry Jags, I think you should have won that game too.

Vikings @ Eagles 7-38
This game was ridiculous. The Vikings were literally one and done. One drive and then they stopped playing. Their first drive was exciting and gave Minnesoda fans hope of a hometown Super Bowl.  Then the rest of the game happened. The Eagles dominated and it wasn’t even fun to watch. I’m not going to lie; we started making dinner at half time and didn’t watch the rest of the game.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Sunday February 4th

Patriots VS Eagles  [6:30pm NBC]
Super Bowl 52 will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Vikings, sorry Vikings fans. Coverage for the game starts at 10am Sunday morning on ESPN and then at 12pm on NBC.  Kick off is set for approximately 6:30pm EST with Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth calling the game on NBC. The highlight of the game might be the half time show, which will feature Justin Timberlake.

This will be New England’s 10th Super Bowl appearance and Philadelphia’s 3rd. The Patriots and the Eagles met in Super Bowl 39 where the outcome was a New England win 24-21. I can honestly say I don’t want either team to win this game. I will say that this should be the last Patriots Super Bowl for a long time. I am calling the dynasty over. Think about it. Belichick, who is usually under dressed, grumpy, and eluding questions, wore a fedora off the plane when he landed in Minnesota, smiled multiple times and happily answered a number of questions on media day.  He even helped his assistant coaches, Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, get head coaching positions on other teams in the NFL. If Brady is calling the shots, which we all know he is, there is no reason for Bill to stick around. I believe this is Belichick’s swan song.
In other Patriot news Tom’s hand has healed and Gronk passed concussion protocol and will start in Sunday’s game.

In Eagles news, billboards all over Philadelphia are popping up saying “From Wentz we came in Foles we trust.” It’s clever, and a nice homage to once backup QB, now starting QB Nick Foles, who, in my opinion, looks like Napoleon Dynamite.

I can’t root for the Eagles to win this game because I’m a Giants fan and Giants fans never root for the Eagles. As much as I don’t like the Patriots, and I DO NOT LIKE the Patriots, I can’t root for them either. For me, the best possible outcome would be a Pats win with a Brady injury that takes him out of the game for at least a year, ending his career, that way everyone loses. During the regular season I usually, begrudgingly, pick the Patriots to win, but I never pick them to win the Super Bowl, until now. I AM picking the Pats to win; it’s just a pick nothing else.

GO DEFENSE!
