Regular Season Week 9
I was back out this past Sunday watching the games with the guys, and in my opinion, it was a great, but somewhat backwards football weekend. Of course I was more than stoked to see my GMEN win but I had to scratch my head when I saw St. Louis roll over New Orleans. The Indi game was so bad that they switched it to the race at the bar, although they kept the Detroit Denver game on, go figure. And my friend asked if we could change the bet to “if the Giants take the NFC East he’ll shave his head”. I said “No, and I want to take the first swipe with the razor” Here’s the recap of week 8.
Miami @ New York Giants 17-20
The Giants always make it an intense, sometimes ugly, blood raising, game to watch. This game wasn’t any different. I didn’t have the preconceived notion that the Giants would just roll over Miami because they seem to play to the ability of their opponents. I’m just glad they came out with a win. Eli had another great game rallying the team in the 4th quarter, with 10 unanswered points and another game without any interceptions. Corey Webster ended the game by halting the Dolphin’s final drive with a wonderful interception. HOORAY GMEN!
Jacksonville @ Houston 14-24
Houston came out with the win, which isn’t really news. At least Jacksonville isn’t dead last in their division, the Colts have that place all wrapped up.
Indianapolis @ Tennessee 10-27
As I mentioned before, this game was so bad that the Taco Mac I was at switched the game to the race. I think that Peyton Manning should be named the MVP of this season. Hear me out. Look at this team with him and look at this team without him. They are 0-8 without him therefore he is obviously the most valuable player of this team. The Titans were able to force turnovers and keep the colts very much in the lead for “suck for luck”
Minnesota @ Carolina 24-21
This was probably the most devastating loss of the season for the Panthers. Olindo Mare missed a 31-yard field goal with 26 seconds left in the game. Had he made it the game would have gone into overtime and the Panthers might have gotten their 3rd win of the season. But that didn’t happen. The Vikings got their second win of the season and Adrian Peterson had 2 touchdowns. (this guy helps me every week in fantasy) Carolina has a bye next week so hopefully they can leave this loss behind and come back stronger.
New Orleans @ St. Louis 21-31
The Rams (or the bumblebees as I called them growing up) are no longer winless! I couldn’t believe it. But as the saying goes “On any given day any given team can beat another given team”. The St. Louis Cardinals did just win the World Series and I’d like to think that that helped the Rams win their game too.
Arizona @ Baltimore 27-30
Going into the half I thought that Arizona might just win this game, but Ray Rice came alive in the second half scoring three touchdowns and the Ravens won it with a field goal in the final minute of the game.
Detroit @ Denver 45-10
This game was even more embarrassing than the Colts game. Detroit sacked Tebow 7 times, reminding him that this is the NFL and not Gator football. The biggest problem I had during this game came after Stephen Tulloch sacked Tim Tebow and then got down on one knee doing the “Tebow”. I don’t like the mocking of prayer. That is all. Could Denver be looking for another starting QB? After this loss it’s quite possible.
Washington @ Buffalo 0-23
Watching this game with a Redskins fan was very entertaining, although I did here “Shut up Shenoa” a lot. The Bills defense had 9 sacks and completely shut out the Redskins. Buffalo also won its first game playing in Toronto since they started making their appearance there in 2008. After this Redskins loss I turned to my friend and said, “I don’t want just the first swipe I want to shave the whole thing”
New England @ Pittsburgh 17-25
I’m never sad when New England loses I just hope they don’t shake off this loss for awhile. Brady did have two touchdowns but also had a costly sack which ended with a safety and the game. Roethlisberger also had two touchdowns and an interception. When asked who I was pulling for in this game I quickly replied “The Defense”
Cleveland @ San Francisco 10-20
Cleveland really didn’t have a chance with a 49ers team that is on fire this year. They haven’t played this good since the ‘90’s so I guess it’s time. Colt McCoy is still hanging in there for the Browns but the 49ers were just over powering on both sides of the ball.
Cincinnati @ Seattle 34-12
Can I just say Andy Dalton, the Bengals QB, is the reddest redhead I’ve EVER seen. He kind of freaks me out a little bit. Maybe that’s why he fits in so well with the Bengals, if they switched to just orange helmets he wouldn’t even have to wear one. Ginger, or not he’s doing something right because the Bengals have already won more this season than they did last season.
Dallas @ Philadelphia 7-34
The question is, is Philly really bouncing back from their “dream team nightmare” or are the Cowboys really just that bad? I’m hoping it’s the latter of the two. It was really great seeing Dallas crumble, but I wasn’t so much of a fan of seeing Philly win. At least both teams are still two games behind the Giants so I’ll focus on that for now.
San Diego @ Kansas City 20-23 OT
My crazy pick of the week came true. Phillip Rivers puts the loss on his shoulders because he fumbled the snap late in the fourth quarter in the red zone. The game then went into overtime where Ryan Succop kicked the game wining field goal for the Chiefs. Interestingly enough, Ryan Succop was Mr. Irrevlevant (the last pick in the 2009 NFL Draft) but he definitely wasn’t irrelevant at the end of this game.
10 W 3 L in my picks for week 8
WEEK 9
We’re halfway through the season. It always goes by too fast.
New York Jets (4-3) @ Buffalo (5-2) [Sunday 1pm CBS]
This is a divisional game in which Buffalo leads the division for the first time in a LONG time. It’s a must win for the Jets but I like the Bills momentum. I’m picking the Bills for the win.
Seattle (2-5) @ Dallas (3-4) [Sunday 1pm FOX]
You know I’d like nothing more than to see Seattle upset the Cowboys just like they upset my Giants (it’s still painful to talk about) but I’m not going to place bets on this game. My heart says Seattle but I’m picking the Cowboys for the win.
Cleveland (3-4) @ Houston (5-3) [Sunday 1pm CBS]
It’s not looking real good for the Browns this week. I’m picking Houston for the win.
Atlanta (4-3) @ Indianapolis (0-8) [Sunday 1pm FOX]
Let me tell you a story. When I was in 11th grade I was watching football with my boyfriend. The Colts were playing and they were HORRIBLE! (Their record that year was 3-13) I remember turning to my boyfriend and saying, “I think I’m going to be a Colts fan because I don’t think they have any” He laughed at me, though I don’t know why because he was a Lions fan, and sarcastically said “Oh ok”
Well the next year the Colts drafted Peyton Manning and it’s been a dream ever since, until now. And this season I often look back and wonder what made me pick the Colts that night. It’s been a very hard season and I just want the team to pull together without Peyton and win a freaking game. But I don’t think it’s going to happen this week. I’m picking Atlanta.
Miami (0-7) @ Kansas City (4-3) [Sunday 1pm CBS]
Miami is bound to win one this year right? I’d like to say its this week but I don’t think so. I’m picking KC.
Tampa Bay (4-3) @New Orleans (5-3) [Sunday 1pm FOX]
I’ve got to go with the Saints because they desperately need to bounce back from last weeks loss.
San Francisco (6-1) @ Washington (3-4) [Sunday 1pm FOX]
I’m going with the 49ers over the Redskins. Now if only the Eagles, and Cowboys could lose this weekend too.
Denver (2-5) @ Oakland (4-3) [Sunday 4:05pm CBS]
I hope the Broncos can come back from their humiliating loss and beat the Raiders this Sunday, although I’m picking Oakland for the win.
Cincinnati (5-2) @ Tennessee (4-3) [Sunday 4:05pm CBS]
I’m going with the Bengals this week. I’m starting to really dislike Cortland Finnegan, he’s obnoxious and I hope the Bengals offense runs right over him. Cedric Benson is coming back from his one game suspension and Chris Johnson just hasn’t showed anything from Tennessee this year. I mean, right now, Cam Newton has more rushing yards AND rushing touchdowns than Chris Johnson. Just sayin
St. Louis (1-6) @ Arizona (1-6) [Sunday 4:15pm FOX]
This game will decide the very last team in the NFC West. After the Rams win last week I have to pick them for the win this week.
New York Giants (5-2) @ New England (5-2) [Sunday 4:15pm FOX]
In my opinion this is the BIGGEST game of the weekend. I am nervous and excited about it. The last time these two teams met was Super Bowl XLII (probably one of the best nights of my life) I still get goosebumps all over my body when I watch the highlights of that game especially the miracle play where Manning escaped a sack and completed the pass to David Tyree who caught it on his helmet.
But I’m not going to live in the past. This Sunday is a new game and the Giants are once again the underdogs. I’m going with the GMEN!!!!!!
Green Bay (7-0) @ San Diego (4-3) [Sunday 4:15pm FOX]
I think that San Diego will have a better game this week against Green Bay but it won’t be enough for the win. I’m picking the Packers
Baltimore (5-2) @ Pittsburgh (6-2) [Sunday 8:20pm NBC]
These guys have already met once this season and Baltimore humiliated the Steelers on that opening weekend. I think things will be a little different this time around. I hope that Baltimore can pull out the win but I’m going to have to pick the Steelers at home. I hope I’m wrong.
Chicago (4-3) @ Philadelphia (3-4) [MNF 8:30pm ESPN]
I don’t believe the hype following the Eagles. My crazy pick of the week is taking Chicago over Philly. I hope DA BEARS don’t let me down.
Byes: Carolina, Detroit, Jacksonville, Minnesota
Thanks for the edit Mom!
GO GMEN AND COLTS!!!!!
